Default Mismatched Wood Trim

This is something that I noticed yesterday, after driving my dad's RX. The steering wheel wood trim is different from all the other trim pieces. The cupholder and door trim is a redish color, but the steering wheel is more brown. Is that normal, or did someone screw up at Lexus? I can take pics

Please take some pics and post. There are 2 different wood colors available in the RX, sounds like a possible screw up. What color is the interior?

It's black leather, so I think the correct color for the trim is red.

You are correct. The Espresso Birds Eye Maple is the browner color that goes with the Gray Interior.

I have the black interior but no wood steering wheel or gear shift ****. They're an option not available on my RX. The door looks right, the steering wheel not really. I've had wood trim added before. It can discolor over time. I'd talk to the dealer.

It's definitely not due to fade - the car is only 7 months old

p.s.: It's not as evident in the pictures but they really look completely different in person. It also seems like a completely different type of material (not just the color).

What does the wood on the gear shifter look like? That was part of the wood kit. I wasn't necessarily implying it faded so soon but it does happen. The color does not match the rest of the pieces. I'd have the dealer replace it or go naked like me. I'm not a fan of the wood.

This was my RX300 at five years with a wood kit installed by the dealer when I bought it new. You can definitely see the difference.

i noticed the same when we took delivery of my 2011 RX350. The dealer assured me that this is how it is for all vehicles. Subsequently, I checked out a few more new vehicles in the lot and he was correct. The GS350 does not have such a mismatch, nor does the LS - just my opinion.
I like my RX interior, either way!

The gearshift is red, just like the door. I honestly don't like the quality of wood that Lexus used on these vehicles. The steering wheel is the only piece that feels good to the touch.

That is probably right since the other wood color is a much deeper brown.

Obviously wood comes in many colors in grain even if it is the same species of tree, so there is probably some variation in color/staining. If you buy the GS and LS, the wood pieces are taken from the same tree so that the grain matches, but not so with the RX

I'm going to have to check the wood in my RX tomorrow morning. I also have the black interior, but for some reason the wood trim on your door armrest is kind of coming in more orangey than red. I would even venture to say that the steering wheel looks like the proper "Walnut" color for the black interior. Not sure about the armrests though.

I would go to the dealership and look at the other RX's on the lot and compare the colors, then you will know for sure.

Default How Lexus Steering Wheels Are Made

In case some people haven't already seen it, there's a 10-slide slideshow describing how Miroku Technowood, Lexus' steering wheel manufacturer, makes the steering wheels.
