Maintenance Schedule
Reading some of the posts and am confused about differences in maintenace schedules. My RX350 was bought in Canada. They are all made in Canada. My schedule calls for oil changes every 8000 km (about 5000 miles) while the schedule for vehicles delivered to US calls for oil changes every 10000 Miles (16000 kilometres). Are we Canadians that much harder on our vehicles? Bad enough we pay considerably more for the car now this???

Our RX is an american vehicle but built in Canada. They call for either full synthetic or semi synthetic blend oil. I noticed that the selling dealer used Castrol syn blend for the last oil change. and yes, they recommend a change every 10,000 miles. Strange that the Canadian recommendations would be for only 5000. miles. I guess they just want more service $.
I chose to buy our RX in the US where the list prices are at least $10,000. less than in Canada. I have had some dealer sales people here tell me it is because of the larger heaters, and different radiators etc......what a bunch of crap. The vehicles are identical except for the speedo and odometer.
The oil change here at a Toyota dealer is approx $80.
Cheers,
Jim

We live about 300 miles from Lexus dealer. I was approaching 8000 km. Knew I'd be back where I bought it in a week or so. Called them and asked if OK to let it run to 9500 or so before change so I could bring it back to dealer. Was told it needs to be done on schedule so I took it to a local garage, had a class A mechanic change oil using 0W20 Quaker State synthetic. Had car back to dealership for warranty work and you'd have thought I had shot someone's mother. Funny - when I was buying vehicle I told salesman that not likely be able to get back for service and was told OK but keep records. Now you'd think Lexus invented cars. Oh well.....
I wanted to buy in US as we spend half time there anyway but wife didn't want to. Next one will deffinately be bought in US!

Yes, some of the RX 350 models are built in Japan as well as all of the RX 450H Hybrid models. If you are importing an RX 350 into Canada, one should be sure to purchase a Canadian made vehicle to avoid the import duties. The vin numvers for the Canadian models begin with 2T............... The Japan built models have a J...... in front of the vin.
