I have a 2010 RX350. The Oil Maintenance Required light came on at about 14,000 miles but the oil change isn't due till 20,000 miles. Is the light based on mileage or is there an oil condition sensor? Just bought the vehicle a month ago with 13,250 miles. They salesman assured me (lied) that the oil change was done as part of the certified pre-owned inspection. When I called the dealer about the light they said the oil was not changed because it wasn't due yet. Thanks for your help.

Aren't the reminders set by mileage and or time by the person (you or a mechanic) in the maintenance reminders list? It not set automatically is it? It depends on how they were set last.

Didn't know about that website feature. That's awesome, thank you. It says the service was done at 10,000 miles so I guess I'm good. Thank you everyone for your fast responses. This forum is great!

Originally, the 2010 model was recommended to have oil change every 5000 miles. The computer doesn't know the company changed it to every 10k miles so you (and I) get a message every 5k miles. Somewhere in the manual I think there's a series of steps to reset it.

updates was announced in late 2009 so for those like myself who purchased beginning of early 2009, we had complimentary change at 5k [only those had done before the announcement] and another at 10k. my "reminder" warning comes on religiously every 5k. simple enough to reset it but would like to revise it so it will come on every 10k.

Oh, I guess the Lexus nanny strikes again.
sightdev, we got our complimentary 5k change, but paid for our 10k oil change as it occurred before the announcement. They laughed when I asked for the next change to be complimentary. They still recommend coming in every 5k miles for the inspection thing. Got over 50k miles on it now.

Don't forget that you get the tires rotated in between. Thus, you may be due for a tire rotation. It's every 5k, tire rotation, and then the next 5k, oil change, and so on.

Takes less than a minute to reset it at the 5,000 mark.
1) Set odo to show tripmeter 1
2) Turn off car
3) Push and HOLD odo reset button and with foot off brake push ignition on
4) Continue to hold odo reset button down and until it resets to zero

I had the tech show me how to reset it when I was there about two months ago for what turned out to be minor service, no oil change. Took all of 10 seconds to do. I figured the light was going to come on soon since 10K was around the corner. It's still hasn't come on, but I haven't put on that many miles to warrant it yet.
