Default Bad Day In The Burgh

Well, the new RX has 2100 miles on it and it is five months old. When it was two weeks old and had 500 miles the wife closed the garage door on the front bumper cover. We had it repaired immediately for almost $500. Last week while driving on a county road at night we hit a low hanging vine at about 40mph. Fortunately no damage. Today our luck just got even worse. In a slight rain this morning I was rear ended. No one was hurt, but the damage will require that the rear bumper cover be replaced and the parking assist sensors will need some work as well. What a pain!! It is off to get and estimate tomorrow and then back to the Lexus body shop for repair next week. I only hope they do as good a job with the rear bumper cover as they did with the front. I am just beside myself.

So sorry to hear about your RX. I'm glad no one was hurt in the aftermath but you might want to follow up with a doctor. Please let us know how the estimate goes. I'm sure they'll do a good repair and make your RX whole again. Good luck.

Caf, I feel for you. My 450 is only a little over two weeks old and it has 1300 miles on it. I also live around the Burgh and true to form, I caught a stone in the windshield last week. It only nicked the windshield and didn't break it but I've been holding my breath waiting for the nick to become something more. My last car (a 2008 GS350) has three windshields in it within the first 12 months of ownership. You just can't keep a car decent and drive it in the Burgh. Sad really.

Just a quick update. The repair to replace the bumper cover, paint, and labor is slightly over $1200. Fortunately the parking assist sensors all seem to be working. So...barring something they find when the remove the cover, that seems to be it. My only concern now is the paint match. The body show owner said, "That is the least of my worries." Hopefully that is a good thing. They have scheduled the work for the week of 19 Sept.

The repair is covered under insurance though, right?

a great body shop will have no problems matching... whereas a "good" body shop will have lots of problems getting even a close match... especially on a metallic paint (silver being one of the toughest) like many Lexus.

One of the best paint/body shops in da 'burgh is Mark Miller's Greater Pittsburgh Collision Works on Flaugherty Run near the airport (they have free car pick up / drop off at Globe parking too if that helps). I have no connections w/ them other than being a satisfied customer. He repainted rear bumper on my wifes Starfire Pearl Metallic GS350, did some custom match work for me on my old Boxster w/ a metallic paint, and a friends Twin Turbo Cab - again metallic. All were 1000% perfect. Not the cheapest but this one isn't on your nickel so make sure it's done right.

Good luck your repairs

Yes the repair is covered by the other person's insurance which is State Farm. Unfortunately, I have experience with a few shops here in the area (not my fault) and I think that I will go with one of them. Kollinger Auto Body is in Wexford and they are close to me. State Farm will guarantee the work for whatever that is worth.

Just a quick update to let you all know that the repair has been completed and it looks GREAT! I was concerned about the paint match, but not to worry. I can not tell the difference. Kollinger Auto Body here in Wexford (north of Pittsburgh) did a great job. They were very professional and took care of everything. They even provided me with e-mail updates along the way and sent out a customer satisfaction survey after I had the car for a day or two. I can assure you that would not have happened with the Rohrich(Lexus) collision center.
