Default Gear Shift - will it loosen up ?

With a new 450h - will the gear shift become smoother ?

Just moving out of park into reverse or drive - seems to be rather clunky. Not smooth. Is this normal on a new car ?

Default RX 450H gear shift from Park to Reverse not smooth

I have the same experience on my 2010 RX 450h when I change from Park to Reverse. It is not smooth. I tried pushing the shift stick in different ways (e.g. slight harder or softer or with a slightly different angle). I sometimes manage to shift very smoothly but not always. I am still trying to figure out how I can shift the gear smoothly very time. The clunky feeling doesn't seem right to me. It seems that I am forcing something when I shift gear. When shifting from Reverse back to Park, it is relatively easier to get a smooth shift. From Reverse to Drive, I can get a smooth shift all the times. I am wondering if anyone out there has any tips on how to properly shift gear from park to reverse. Any help is appreciated.

so we are talking about the movement of the shift lever not being smooth and not the actual transmission shifting into gear right?

Moving the lever on my FWD 450h is very easy and smooth. Possibly an adjustment is needed on your RX. You should ask your dealer.

Like UCSB said, you should probably get your dealer to adjust it. But it's no linkage to the tranny, it's all electric. Probably just something binding in the travel of the shifter.

Thank you all for your responses. I should probably talk to the dealer the next time I am there.

Our 2010 Gear Shift never loosened up after 19,000 miles in the RX 350. The Gear Shift is definitely looser on our 2012 RX 450h but the shifter is like butter on my 2011 CLS550..

I'm still having an issue with a "squeaky" gear shift lever when I go from Drive to Park. This is on an RX350. I've had it greased up or whatever kind of lubricant they've applied to it twice when I've taken the RX in for my scheduled maintenance, and after a week, the squeaking or rubbing comes back.
