Default Service really necessary at 6 months with low miles?

I'm reaching the end of my 6 month of ownership, and am getting letters to schedule 5000 mile service....bit I only have 2700 miles...is there any advantage to getting it done now? Will I void any warranty if I don't get it done? Thanks for your help!

I would think that if you had the first service, which is supposed to be free, one or two months later, your vehicle wouldn't suffer. I would suggest that you have the service completed before 8 or 9 months. AT that point you should have close to 5 or 6 k miles and if you are having any other problems with your new RX, they can be looked at. I don't think your warranty will be void by waiting for a few months more! Call the dealer and check out what they say about waiting so you won't have to worry!
Cheers,
Jim
Enjoy your new ride!

I had similar mileage as you and had mine done at 8 months. Now mine's overdue for the year checkup. I should schedule it soon although I only have 6000 miles.

Agreed it will not void your warranty.

Like you I'm a low miles/year Lexus owner but I do go and change my oil and filter every 6 months. To me its a simple and inexpensive preventative maintenance. Of course I have no statical data to back my practice up but I do find it gives me good peace of mind.

I did my first maintenance at 10,000 miles. I will do the next one at 20,000 miles.

I too am a low mile driver. I pushed the first visit out without a problem and, I am pushing the second visit out. The dealer did tell me I do have to have the 10k done within 18 months or they will not cover it. I am going in at 17 months with 9k on the RX. Someone is going to get a great low mileage used car when it's time....

I did change the oil at 2k myself and it will be one year from that date to this service. I figure once a year regardless of miles.

Just schedule it when you have 5,000 miles or within 12 months of purchase. Assume the generic reminder letters are automated to go out at 6 months time when more folks would have higher mileage.

I, like you, have low mileage (4800 at 11 months), and I will take it in for the free 5,000 mile dealer oil change shortly.

I just took my vehicle in yesterday at 4950 miles for my free one-year (certificate given by dealer when purchased) oil and filter change. I have owned the vehicle 11 months, 2 weeks. They considered the one year free oil change certificate the same as their standard 10,000 mile check-up and oil change that Lexus provides free. Thus, while my vehicle has only 5,000 miles in the 1st year, the free oil change is only provided one time whether you have 10,000 or 5,000 miles on it when you take it in. That is fine with me as I appreciate getting the one year free oil change service.

I don't put the miles on my RX either. In November I'll be going in for the 15K service with almost two years on the clock. The first oil change was done last December so I will ask them to change it again. Otherwise I go every six months for tire rotations and checks - minor service. My total out of pocket maintenance cost to date has been less than $50

Anita
My 30K is coming up in another month or so. I bet the tab will be my largest yet due to having to change the oil. The previous ones have been comped.

However my Michelin Latitudes are still quite, smooth, and good on tread. I'm thinking somewhere between 35 and 40K is when I'll change them.

Jim, I checked my dealership for the price of the 15K service. It'll run me $320 plus the oil change. It's a good thing I have a few points on the Lexus card to help defray the cost. Plus my SA gives me a discount or takes out the unnecessary stuff. I doubt I'll pay that much The 30K is $583. It'll be a while before I get there. Service cost overall hasn't been bad because I never went beyond 51K on either RX. In fact my 330 was sold CPO even though it was more than six years old.

@Cruiter......wish your dealership was in this area, practically NOTHING is comped here. Oil changes are about $80 so I go to Wally World (Walmart) where a synthetic oil change is $50.

Default Sweeter than Honey

Everyone gets their 1st oil change comped. One day on the phone with Corp I paid them a compliment. They just mentioned something would be in the mail. It was the 20k service comped . And the dealer was notified as well.

Ya never know when a little honey will bring great rewards
