Default Will my surfboard fit in the RX?

Hi folks,

I'm currently shopping for an RX, haven't yet decided whether to get new or pre-owned and hybrid or not. But the main consideration is whether my 8'6" surfboard will fit inside. I know the front seat doesn't fold down so I'm wondering if I'm going to be able to fit it in okay.

Also is there a size difference in terms of cargo space between the early to late models RXs?

Thanks.

The 2010, 2011 and the 2012 ( most likely) look exactly the same..they have the same cargo spaces as well. I don't think it would fit inside. You're better off having it on the roof.

You won't be able to open the rear window as well while driving ala Toyota 4 runner

The dimensions of the interior are available at Lexus' website. Also, nothing beats going to the dealer to check the cars that you're looking for yourself.

Thanks for your suggestion, happy1977, however measurements do not tell all, so I am posting this in the hopes that someone who has tried to put a surfboard in the car might read it and give me their input.

Yes, if you knock the back window out.

See now that surprises me because it fit inside my '98 Ford Escort and my '08 Dodge Caliber. The issue really is the front seat. Can the front seat be leaned back?

Yes it can be leaned back. But not a complete 180 degrees.

I just picked up inno surf board rack with locks for my 2010 lexus rx350...Its easy to install and use

no need to put the board in the car.

Can you tell me how these inno racks work? Does it come with cross bars or do you get the cross bars from Lexus? I used to have soft racks, and they were a pain in the butt. Any faster than 40 mph and I though the board was going to fall off.

You will need the Lexus crossbars.

It is not a soft pad setup....Very secure and stable.

I never used soft pads, but I have friends that do. I think the innno is easier to use and drive with.

I do not recommend speeding or immediate stops, but I cruise the freeways with my boards.

hope this helps
