@ batmobileX. Considering the 2012 are almost here.. In a matter of weeks, and the RX you like is USED already. Even with all the add ons I would never pay anything over $34,000 for that.

Is it the color that you originally wanted? How's the paint job? any history of accidents/dents etc ( check the carfax).

Do I really have to keep it quiet that I'm paying cash until the end? I guess most dealers even for used car assume you are financing. I had thought paying cash was going to give me leverage, at least a friend told me so but now I am hearing they are actually going to be a bit miffed at losing commission. So how does this go, they say, "The car is $38,000 at 1.9% 3 year financing $1500 down and I say, no actually I'll offer you $36,000 cash? Then they are going to bump it up to 40, right?

just incase you need to pay cash, with that amount try to get something back like cash back, rewards or even airmiles from the bank or credit card company.

I thought the same way too, I told them pay off by cash and demand couple thousands off. But NO, they (dealer) rather let me do financing and give me $500 off. Finally, cash for the full price

I agree with The X Men. When you go to the dealer have a firm price already in your head and negotiate lower than that number and don't go higher. I would negotiate an "out the door" price which will include all the tax, processing fees, etc. I did that and paid $46,500 for my 2012 AWD, my "out the door" price was $32k so they either had to increase what they wanted to give me for my trade or decrease the cost of the new car.
