Moon/Sun roof

Interesting idea ... are you saying to leave the backside open when you park the car? Wouldn't the increased sun exposure coming through the moonroof heat up the parked car (vs having the sun shade closed)?

I use mine all the time. As someone else mentioned, it's less breezy and less noisy than opening windows. Considering summer is so short up here in Toronto, I really don't mind having the warm sun shine down on me when I can get it. On cooler days, I'll just raise it to crack it open. When I park, I'll often raise it but close the shade most of the way... still allows air to escape without letting sun in.
Interestingly, I can drive just fine with the roof in the normal open position, but if I retract it fully (hold the open button down), the wind/pressure starts interfering with the sound in the car producing an annoying "wah wah wah" effect.
One thing I was disappointed in was that the open button will not automatically lower the moonroof if it is raised. If I have the roof raised in my BMW, I can press open to have it lower and retract -- no need to manually lower it first.

When I do this, I only have the sun shade open about two inches too. Does it help or make it worse? Never really tried to quantify it. Suppose if there were a vent on the cool(?) underside of the car could get some convection currents going

I use mine all the time except in extreme weather and obviously rain!!! It helps to air out the car when it has been sitting in the sun and is so nice in the spring/fall. Even in the winter I sometimes crack it open for fresh air. On dark/dreary days it is nice to let in some more light. I wouldn't get a car without one!!!

With the exception of one of my first vehicles, all of the vehicles I have driven in the past 30 years have had either a sunroof with no moonroof or a sunroof/moonroof. I absolutely love it, even better than a convertible.
Living in Florida, it doesn't get used much in the summertime, except at night I do open the sunshade. I use it mostly in the spring and winter. I also like the feeling of open space even if only the moonroof part is open. Whenever I've driven a rental car that doesn't have a sunroof, I feel confined.
