Default 2011 13,400 miles listed $48,600 new what should i pay?

I'm looking at a 2011 with 13,400 miles listed $48,600 new what should i pay? Has convenience, preferred packages etc prettty loaded. I can get a 2012 that lists for $49,575 for $45,000 so whats the 2011 with 13,400 miles worth?

Thanks Dorothy

What I found when I shopped for used was they weren't offering very good deals on them. What I wanted to pay wasn't close to what they wanted. Assuming this is a certified. Lexus corp seem to be controlling the prices.

Hi, Dorothy. Considering it's a 2011 with only 13,000 miles I am going to assume they aren't going to offer it CPO. If they would the price would be jacked up to pretty near what the new one is being offered at. Either way you could expect around a $43K price tag since the used market is slim and the dealers are really trying to push new vs. used these days.

I had a similar choice to make and went the new route. Spent a few grand more, but got new, the standard Lexus warranty (the used wasn't offered as CPO), and I am responsible for any scratches, dings etc and not subject to what someone else did over the cars life.

I paid $37,500 before taxes for a 2010 awd with nav park assist and 19" wheels with 23k miles with the CPO 100k warranty. I wanted new but was out of my price range and I was at ease knowing my car warranty was extended beyond factory. Let us know what ends up happening!!

Try www.autotrader.com and put in the vehicle of interest. I just did it for a 2011 RX350 with < 15,000 miles. It brought up 281 listings for sale.

The major factor with used cars vs new is condition. Price often times reflect condition and the cars I was referring to were CPO's... so like new. If condition isn't a factor, you can save a lot.

You are definitely right on condition being a factor, however, I have also been told balance of warranty is also a factor since sales gets charged at a rate of $2,000 - $2,500 to CPO a vehicle which in turn gets put into the price to the customer. I've seen some CPO's that were definitely not like new. And when questioning the salesman on the mirror scratches, hatch scratch (from a low garage door), door cup ring scratches, stone chips galore, etc the response was 'Don't worry, we'll make them disappear'. After further questioning they admitted they would just have a guy come in with a paint pen and fill in the scratches and chips and they would try to buff out any other imperfections. The dealers have a checklist to go down. Once they go through that checklist it is the customers job, unfortunately, to make final judgement on how good of a condition the car is in or whether or not they are trying to polish a turd that shouldn't be considered on the like new scale.

I'm not saying all cpo's are like new, I'm saying that the cpo that are in like new condition, there isn't much room to haggle. That is what i found. If you do find a cpo they will hangle on, there is a reason.

As you both noted, the fee to cpo the car is a big part of it. I think Lexus purposely does this to point buyer to new cars? It worked on me.

Worked on me as well. I bought my 2007 ES in 2008 as a CPO with only 10K on the odometer. Saved almost $10,000 off new/retail. Enter cash for clunkers and all the other "trade-in you car for a new one" incentives which dessimated the pre-owned market. You can't find that kind of a delta anymore on a CPO. Also, I think Lexus is jacking up the CPO prices to move new inventory since the tsunami caused a noticable absense of stock over the course of 2011. So I think there is a "Push to buy new and rebuild pre-owned" logic right now to help the bottom line on both ends.
