You can change the oil as Often as you like..
Every week if you want to, but the question is, does that makes sense?
OR do we take the recommendation from the engineers who happened to deal with more than 1 RX?
You can go to your drive through oil changer like Jiffy lube and they will gladly change your oil every 3,000 miles.

You can buy Mobil 1, 0-20W Synthetic Oil at Walmart for $29.00+ for a 5 quart plastic bottle; you can buy oil filters with new o rings from many folks, including sewellparts.com for a reasonable price. Just note that the engine requires 6.4 US quarts, so you need a large catch container.

I have owned 5 Lexus cars over the past 20 years. I have always changed my oil every 3000 miles at a local quick lube type place and had a local mechanic..not Lexus..do the bigger service jobs like 30,60 and 90k for a ton less than lexus wanted to charge.
Can anyone tell me if my 2010 RX350 2wd has an ENGINE AIR FILTER? I cant find any mention of it in the owner manual and used to change it on my 2002 RX300 every 15k or so. I see a CABIN AIR FILTER discussed in the manual but think that is for the inside air system ..Dont know if im right...not very mechanical.
Thanks for your help.![Sad](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/sad.gif)

I am curious of the following. For all the 3rd gen RX owners who plan to change the oil at every 5k miles or less as opposed to every 10k miles as stated in the owner's manual, assuming using 0W-20 synthetic in either case and with everything else being equal, how much more engine life do you think you can get by changing the oil at every 5k or less miles as compared with changing oil at every 10k miles?
I am trying to understand whether changing oil at every 5k miles or less is more of a psychological satisfaction (ie, piece of mind) than actual benefit as compared to changing oil at every 10k miles.

rxsuperman I hear you. People are stuck in the mindset of the 3000mile oil change because that was what they did in the 50 with old style, non additive Dino oil. Times have changed folks, tolerances are way better, oil is litterally not from another time (Jurasic Period). 30 years ago I bought a chainsaw and it was 20:1 oil ratio for the mix. The one I bought last year was 60:1. Better oils, better manufacturing processes make this possible.
I dont think that the extra difference in lenght will shorten the life of the engine at all. If you want to change it early go ahead, I own oil stocks however there really isnt any need. Lexus is not the only manufacturer saying this, they ALL are now. These are not your fathers Oldsmobiles as they say.
Bearcatjer, yes the car has an engine air filter. It is under the hood under the plastic shrouds in a box. The cabin air filter does what is sounds like it does and filters odors out of the cabin. It is located inbehind the glovebox.
