Correct, the camera is in the housing of the mirror. When you touch the door handle the mirrors fold out if you have it on auto. You can still fold the mirrors with a push of the button when pulling in tight parking situations. I believe you can turn the cam on with the mirrors folded, interesting view. That camera has saved me many a scraped tire and rim. Enjoy.
