Unhappy Piston Slap

We are one of those RX350 with the so called piston slap. We have a 2010 with 24K miles and the noise seems to be getting louder when cold. The local dealership agrees. We are waiting for the Factory Rep but I have an idea what they are going to say.. What the latest with the rest of you piston Slappers....Thanks. PLKIDS

1st, welcome to our forum. The so called piston slap has been a topic you can search and find a lot of info on. Some cars have a noise, some don't but Lexus has the final word on doing something about it.

I don't have it (thankfully) but many who do have said that Lexus informed them it was common and not an issue to warrant removing the engine and tearing apart the block. Personally I'm not convinced it's slap but might be the sound of the cam chain when cold. In this new low friction engine family they did away with the belt for the cam and now use an internal chain. When cold, it does make a bit of noise but goes away as the engine and oil warm up.

Upside is it will never need changing .

Let us know what your factory rep does say, in the meantime I'd enjoy the car and keep up the service.

Thanks Jim, We are enjoying the Lexus. Our other one was a 2006 RX330 Silver in color and had no problem with it at all. Our son has it now and it has 53K miles on it and still very nice. I understand Lexus is not to excited about a fix it's just annoying for a $50K car to have a problem like that. Will keep you up dated....Thanks again. Eddie Miller

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it as long as you have documented with the dealer.

Default Very dissapointed with Lexus

Well I have been waiting for one month now for the Factory Person to contact me and haven't heard a word If I don't hear from them by the end of the month I going to come home with a New Accura or Mercedes. We had a 2006 RX330 that was pefect. No more Lexus since they aren't to concern with product or customer satifsfaction. Goody bye Lexus...

Maybe you should just follow-up with Lexus.
