Default First road trip to Reno from SF, 21.5 up 24.5 mpg back

Took the first real road trip with the RX and I'm even more impressed.. handling, passing power, fuel economy, ergonomics, storage.. wow!.. Trip was about 500 miles and quite pleasant. First time I had a real chance to open it up on the open roads.. and really and use the tranny in sports mode ascending and descending.

MPG wise, I was most impressed. Averaging well above the speed limit, heading up to Reno(from sea level) I got 21.5mpg. I wasn't holding back on the hills neither. I was carrying 4.5 passengers(the .5 being my daughter). The car climbed up the Donner Summit with a fair amount of ease. On the way back, there was a light rain and snow but not enough for chains which slowed things down but never a stop and go. 24.5mpg when I got home. I am sure I could have done even.

Transmission didn't miss a beat in full auto or sports mode. Sure fun testing that out

Handling compared to the 1st gen is night and day. I'm sure the firm 19" sidewall helped as well. Till the next trip.

Yes, good point, that was with 87 not 91 octane!

I absolutely love taking road trips in the RX! I just got back from a trip to the Florida Keys which is a trip that I take about four times a year since I have family there. The RX really shines on road trips. It's so comfortable, secure and gets good gas mileage on the highway. At one point after refueling, I had a reading of 26 miles per gallon, though my average was 18 miles per gallon. I also ran into a lot of rain off and on on the trip this time going down, and I've noticed with the 2010 RX and the 2007 RX that I used to drive that it seems when the roads are wet, that the car drives with an even more hunkered-down feel, and a slightly more firm feel in the steering wheel. I always feel very confident and secure when driving the RX in the rainy weather.
