Default BT - Phone (iphone) connection dropping issue anyone?

The BT connection to my phone has this weird behaviour that it drops the connection every once in a while (I have re-set them about 5 times now); however, the connection of BT-Audio & my phone stays on all the time without problem. It has been very annoying because I have to set my phonebook & speed dials. I wonder if anyone has similar problem or I just need to take it back to the dealer.

Is it dropping the connection while the vehicle is running or is it failing to reconnect after you shut the vehicle down and go to use it again? Also, if it is the latter, have you connected a 2nd phone at any time in between?

I have a similar problem in my 2012 RX350. Both my Iphone 4 and my wife's were paired to the BT at the dealership (mine first). When I shut down the engine and then start it again, I seem to have to reconnect my wife's Iphone everytime (or, at least turn off the BT on her Ipone, then turn it back on again). My, phone, however stays connected. I have tried to turn off the BT on my Iphone when entering the car to see if that prevents the problem. Why doesn't her phone stay connected? Any ideas?

I do not have any disconnect problems with my iPhone 4 and 2013 RX450h

...but I did with my previous 2006 RX400h. I never had to re-pair to get BT to work, just magically, turning off the 400h and most of the time, the BT connection was re-established the next time I turned on the truck.

Adding to this, my iPhone is very prone to BT problems inside my home. My home phone system (Panasonic) allows it to connect with a BT phone, such that when my landline or cellular rings, my home phones can answer as well as place calls out on either one. The issue is, some times my iPhone 4 will not do it's auto-connect to the home system as it should when it is within range of the base unit, until I enter iPhone iOS settings and manually tell it to connect via the BT panel. I never have to re-pair. My personal opinion is it's some sort of odd issue with my particular iPhone, iOS, or the combination of the two -- not my home phone system. Therefore perhaps it's not an issue with your truck, but the individual phone itself since cloud11244 has a good example where his wife's phone exhibits the odd behaviour and his does not.

After pairing, you have to make sure you leave bluetooth on your phone 'on'. And like Bert said, some folks are having problems with their iPhones. Most problems seem to be related to the iPhone rather than droids. And that does seem strange as the NAV system is dedicated to the iPod for music . It's technology with a mind of it's own .

my 2012 Rx has the same issue, according to Lexus (I spoke with them) in BT I have 2 phones paired...(wife's and mine)...according to Lexus who ever enters the RX first that is the phone that will work or connect automatically, either my wife's or mine....NAH!!!!! ....regardless who enter the RX first, my wife's stays connected ALL the time and if I am in the RX without my wife, then I have to mannually "connect" my phone in BT (even thou both phones are set up and in connected state)...I leave the RX, my wife comes in she will have to "reconnect" her phone...and the process repeats depending on who is going to use BT.
I had an MDX 2011 and the BT work the right way...whoever came in first THAT was the phone that could be used....I have given up...my wife is the one driving the RX most of the time so her phone is the one "connected" all the time and the few occasions that I drive the RX , if I need to use the phone (rarely), I pull to the side and do so...Lexus has no explanation neither does the dealer..as a matter of fact when I picked up the RX the socalled "specialist" had no answer either...further more....the Itunes works the same way...in other words the system apparently allows only one device to be used or "connected" (makes sense) but the connection has to be done manually every time not automatically as it is expected or described by Lexus...shame on them!!!

My wife is finding that , in order to connect, she does not have to go through the "connection' process (which was already done), but has to turn the Bluetooth off, then on again on her Iphone 4 settings everytime she enters the car in order to connect. So, is this a Lexus problem or an Iphone 4 problem? I am still a little confused in spite of the discussions above in this thread.

I have never had a problem with both my iPhone and my dad's iPhone in the RX 350. Whoever is driving the car it automatically selects the phone that it can connect to. The only time I have to manually change it is when my dad recently drove the car (or vice versa), and I'm pulling out of the garage and his phone is close enough to the car to connect it will connect to his phone since it is the last one to be used. The only thing I could recommend is to make sure that your running the most current version of iOS which is iOS 5.1.1

iOS runs on the iPhone. On your iPhone, start the Settings App, then select General, then About. That panel will tell you the Version of iOS you are running on your iPhone. If its downlevel, plug it in to iTunes and it will prompt to update.

Thanks! I followed your directions and it looks like my Iphone 4 is using version 4.2.10. I am sorry to be ignorant about this but why would upgrading to a newer OS version affect the way the phone connects to the Lexus BT?

Even Apple needs to improve their software sometimes and running the latest, greatest on your phone MAY eliminate any difficulties or it may not. There's always the chance something is wrong with your phone or with the car or something blocking signal. Updating eliminates at least one possible variable.

Think of your iPhone hardware like your body or that of a shell. iOS is what goes inside that to give it it's personality. As DunWkg says, Apple updates iOS from time-to-time to add capabilities and fix problems -- iOS 5 has been out for more than a year now, so it's time you "sent your iPhone back to school" for some improvements and hopefully make it a little smarter than it is now. As he says, it may or may not resolve the actual problem you're having with car connectivity. Make sense?

Just plug your iPhone with the USB cable that came with it into your Mac or PC, as you did at time of the original iPhone purchase. iTunes will see your iPhone and notice iOS is down-level then prompt you to update. Let it do it -- it will take some time to download the code and update things. Don't disconnect or try to stop the process once it begins. Your contacts, apps, etc will be backed-up automatically before it starts, and they will still be on your phone when the process is complete. The whole process is extremely simple. After you do this, I'd suggest you at least connect your iPhone to iTunes every few weeks (I do mine approximately every week) so that you have a backup of your iPhone in case you loose it or some disaster strikes, and any updates will be automatically downloaded to your phone as well. The side benefit is some day when you buy a new iPhone, you'll just plug it into iTunes after you buy it, iTunes will recognize you had one before and ask you if you want to bring everything over from your old phone -- so your settings, apps, contacts, etc are there and ready-to-go on your new device immediately. Stay current and let your iPhone benefit from the latest updates as often as possible.

Thanks very much! After I update the OS, will I then have to again "pair" the Iphone to the Lexus, or just "connect" it?

Generally, you won't even have to pair it again. Just hop in your car with your iPhone on. Most of the time after even a significant iOS upgrade your settings are in-tact. Worst case, you can re-pair if need be.
