Yes, I tend to agree with you.

But with all these electronics in the vehicles these days....... For sure, the insurance companies ultimately wins at the end (house always wins in the casino).

Lexus/Toyota is still MORE reliable vs any out there. Most of the Euro brands put in new techs BEFORE they fully test them. The new car buyers (leasers, really) are their "free beta testers" who pay the "ultimate price for the ultimate driving machine or the best or nothing"......... You get the drift.

It pretty much covers everything other then wear and tear. It includes electronic.

I was able to get a 10yr/100,000 mile platinum zero deductible warranty from out of state with Toby (tobytoyota@aol.com) over the phone/email. Confirmed it was added to my car with Lexus directly. No muss no fuss easy peasy.

Default Extended Warranty for a 2013 RX 350 w 76000 miles

Hey Guys,

I am on the verge of finishing a deal on a 2013 RX 350 with 76000 miles with a Lexus dealer. It is a one owner car bought at the same dealership. When the discussion came about extended warranty, the quote i got was as follows, I know Lexus is a very dependable car. But in case if I need to choose the extended warranty, which of the below should I choose or should I negotiate to get more bang for the buck? If so, what numbers should I ask for? Request your valuable inputs.

Extended warranty provided by Lexus (Not third party).

3 years / 36K miles - $3250 + tax. (0$ deductible)
4 years / 48K miles - $3450 + tax. (0$ deductible)
5 years / 60K miles - $3650 + tax. (0$ deductible)

YMMV - Extended warranties always favor the Dealer-Giver. Your car is 6 years old and is out of the normal factory warranty. It gets trickier on getting the warranty honored - really will depend on negotiation.

Highly suggest you keep the $3,250 + Tax in the bank and let it earn money. When it is time for repairs, use this budget. 76,000 miles would have tested your tranny and engine and they have passed. This warranty is very limited in scope, lots of fine print.

I did purchase an extended warranty on my RX that I bought used, I was lucky that when I bought it, the RX was still at the tail end of the original Lexus warranty. As a result, the Dealer was nice enough to honor all the complaints I had (whether they were covered with the Lexus Original Warranty or not), which included recalls and enhancements (this is KEY - this is the Dealer's option to honor or not and this is where the extra expense helped). In short (just my case) the $2,200 Lexus Extended warranty I invested in was very worth it.

I have a 2004 RX, 1st RX built in North America - Canada and as a result had a lot of build issues inherent in the start up builds. All of the issues were addressed, including recalls and the key word - "enhancements," such as paint defects and other cosmetic issues.

Good luck.

Default 2013 rx350 extended warranty?

Hello,
new here and looking for opinions. I’m about to finance a 2013 rx350 with 55k miles on it. They are pushing the extended warranty for an additional 5 yrs or 72k miles whichever comes first. I drive about 20k- 25k a year highway miles. So the EW will last about 3 years for me. The cost is $3909. I’m buying this car because everything I read is that they don’t break down. I don’t want to make a bad decision here, as this is my dream car. So, what would you do? Should I just put $3500 in an emergency car fund (3yr cd) versus buying a warranty that will expire?

thank you all!

I have been driving for more than 50 years and have never purchased an extended warranty. I keep a rolling $2,500-to-$3,000 vehicle maintenance fund in a money market account to cover any required repairs for all four of our current vehicles. This philosophy has always worked for me (I DIY the vast majority of my own maintenance and repairs).

Same here. I keep a fund at about $2500 for 2 cars and have rarely maxed it out over the last 40+ years. And I don't do my work anymore since I'm ancient now. As an aside, while our cars are fairly reliable, Lexus is now ranking between 5th-7th place in terms of reliability from various sources (CR, Repairpal.com, etc.), and the cost of repairs is not cheap.

I've been driving over 50 years, too. I never bought an extended warranty on a car until my 2007 LS460 and 2014 LS460. In both cases, the warranties paid out way more than they cost. As for the old argument "put it in the bank to earn interest" well, with zero interest rates, car repairs are going up way faster than returns on a $2000-$3000 bank account!

If you can DIY most major repairs then by all means save your money. But if, like most people, this is not an option, an extended warranty on a complex automobile like a Lexus may be money well spent.

Hi Tom,.

I am unable to find the mentioned reference on this site with regard to the extended warranty providers. Is there any way you can let me know so that I may get one for my 2013 RX 350.

Thanks

My understanding is that the extended warranty by Lexus can only be purchased while the base warranty is still in effect. If you purchased the vehicle as CPO, that comes with extended warranty.

There are other companies which offer Extended warranty, but please read the fine print thoroughly check the credentials of the policy provider.
