I am a new member. A month ago I bought a 2003 Lexus RX300 with 135,000 miles. The truck runs smooth but I hear a boiling noise coming from the gearbox. Should I be worried and buy extended warranty? All the postings regarding the extended warranty so far are more or less about newer trucks. Need opinion. Thanks.

As for the transmission, it is definitely a weak spot and a known problem on the RX300. Would not surprise me if the previous owner knew something was up and got rid of it. You will want to spend some time over in the 1st Generation RX forum regarding this topic:

And, get that transmission looked at before it becomes a much bigger problem though it may already be too late. Sorry.

Extended warranty for my 2010
Added 4 more years and up to 100k miles to my 2010. Have had several mechanical issues, all relatively minor (shocks, wheel bearings) so felt it worth while.
Thanks ClubLexus for the link to Jerry who saved me serious dough!

Welcome to Club Lexus, Yimer. As noted, you are long out of warranty to get any Lexus warranty.

Bought my 2008 RX400h as a certified used vehicle and it came with a 3 year warranty ....well yesterday the car died in the road (a rear ignition switch?) luckily the car was still under the warranty and as it turned out the last day of it...thank you Lexus.... I inquired about buying an extra 2 years, 24000 miles and as my car has 68500 miles I was quoted $2995 ... I'm balking at the price and wondering where to look and I'm planning to buy another used RX in 2 years or so....any advice? Thanks in advance

I bought a 2012 Lexus RX350 used with 20,000 miles from a Toyota dealer. Would I be eligible for extended warranty from a Lexus dealer? Also, I was informed by a MA dealer that he cannot sell a Lexus warranty to an out of state buyer. Comments?

You are definitely eligible for a Lexus extended warranty. The MA dealer is correct. Sometime in the last year, Lexus changed their policy. Dealers can no longer sell extended warranties outside of their state. So you'll have to contact dealers in Texas to shop around for the best deal on an extended warranty

I haven't bought another one. But I would try a local Toyota dealer before going to Lexus to see if you can get it cheaper.

Recently bought a 2011 RX350 from a private seller. The car has 26,000 miles and is in pristine condition. The seller just called me and told me that the option to purchase the Lexus Platinum Warranty for 4 more years or 100,000 miles is available until the 30th of this month.
The car has the NAV system and some on this forum conclude that it may be worth the "peace of mind" to purchase the "insurance."
The price he claims is $1795 -- any thoughts on this being a fair price?
Read there may be other Lexus dealers that offer the same at a discount.
Comments, please.
Thanks
