Default 2010 RX - Noticing "automatic" heat??

Hi All,

As the weather has been getting cooler, I've started to notice that the vents in my 2010 RX450h blows heat, even though the fan and all air settings are off in the car - odd? I have a 2011 CT200h as well, and do not experience this...off means off!

Anyways, just wondering if anyone knows of a setting I can try before I dive back into the 500 page manual...

Thanks!

Is the system set to recirculate or outside air? It could be outside air coming in that is being heated. I haven't experienced this in my 2010 RX350. If the fan is completely off and it's set to recirculate, I don't feel any air at all.

I do have recirculating air off (so, I technically, air does come in...).
If this is indeed the case, it's interesting that it will heat up the air to the point where it's actually warm/hot!

If my '1st' wife was in your car and talking, then I'd have your answer

Be nice Jim

I'd be curious to know the temperature setting before you turned off the fan. Heat comes out of the floor and window vents when in auto mode at higher temps. I believe it defaults to fresh air too. The center vents are for cooling down the car, again in auto mode, recirculate on. I wish I had your problem right now. It's chilly by me.

My 13 does that also; I have the temp setting at 74 for both sides and when it is 50 degrees in the morning the heat comes gently on when the vehicle warms up to bring interior temps up also!!!

my temp is set to 70 - i (think!) understand the 'auto' premise, where the vehicle will bring the temp up to what you've pre-set...in my situation, auto is 'off' as well! It's a nice feature where the vents will automatically kick on, but sometimes, I just wish off means off

and yes, jim...play nice

yes, my old RX did this too. It is because you have it set on outside air so when outside air comes in, it is also being warmed to the temperature you have set for in the air conditioning was on

I have yet to own any car that does not allow air to trickle in through the vents, based on the last set temp prior to turning it off. (Hondas, Mazdas, Acuras, Toyotas, Lexus, etc). And the amount of air that trickles in is proportional to the speed you travel (outside air intake speed).

To note though, I always have it in the fresh air setting since the recirc setting can get stuffy and fog up the windows more quickly.
