The 3rd gen RX Tire Thread
#1069
After doing considerable research last summer, I installed a set of Continental CrossContact LX25 all-season 235/55/19 tires on my wife's 2015 RX350 last August. Quiet, great wet traction, great ride comfort, no tramlining, a 70,000-mile treadwear warranty, and an overall great bang-for-the-buck tire.
Your RX350 is a heavy car like my Tesla P100D and I love my Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 Plus tires I purchased at Discount Tires. They are great on dry, wet, ice and snow. They give a softer and quieter ride than Michelin tires and have a 50,000 mile warranty. My tesla puts a lot of torque on the tires and corners hard and these tires handle it all.

The DWS06 Plus is indeed a great performance tire, but the RX is NOT a performance vehicle. I opted for a set of LX25 tires for the 70,000-mile treadwear warranty as well as for the significantly lower price. They are now a year old with about 12,000 miles on them, still look almost new, and my wife continues to be very happy with them.

Hate Pirellis Scorpions
I just installed the same tires and they are all the above - excellent so far - time will tell
Biggest improvement over the Pirellis Scorpions I just tossed, is the much smoother, quieter ride - huge improvement.
Haven't had them out on wet pavement yet so I can't comment - although the reviews state they are very good.
The Pirellii's were a massive disappointment - I only had them on 2 yrs (20,000 kms / 12K miles) before they became very hard and noisy.

Pirellis Scorpions are junk and by far the worst tires I have ever owned. Could not wait to get rid of them. The only reason why I think anyone would get them is because they probably think the name is cool.

I refuse to purchase any Pirelli tire. Had a set that came on a new Alfa Romeo way back in the 1980s that lasted maybe 12,000 miles. Had another set that came on my wife's Jaguar XK8 in 2012 that lasted less than 15,000 miles. Tires are much too costly to waste money with Pirelli.

I have about 25K km on the Scorpion AS+2 and I still only have the same complaint from when it was new compared to the Michelins, a little harder compound and a tad harsher at 32 psi. Handling and road noise are same as Michelins.
That said, I need a new set of winters and will be getting Michelins to replace the Michelins. Though tempted to try the Nokians.

Costco.ca now has C$120 off for set of 4 so I just ordered the Michelin X-Ice for 235/55/R19. No installation charge too. Replacing the 8-year old set so I’ll also need to check Costco’s TPMS and compare to OEMs.

Greetings.
I too am looking to change out our wearing tires: Michelin Latitude Tour boots on 2010 RX350 AWD Sport. Those designated 19" V-rated tires have become so damned noisy at highway speeds, especially on exposed aggregate blacktop.
They have 35K Kms. on them here in Victoria, BC.
Did carefully think about Tire Rack's very positive take on the Scorpion AS Plus 3. So I talked with the tire rep at local Costco --
I wasn't aware that Pirelli specifically, will not allow any repairs done to their tires with a speed rating of "V" or greater. Only warranty replacement given (via an inflated pro-rated price).
This can be a real bummer if one of my tires goes bad on this AWD vehicle, when all are down over the 3/32" wear threshold.
Now ALL tires would have to be replaced!
So now I'm on the hunt again. This time looking at CrossClimate2's.
Along with the odd snow and ice runs, lack of any road noise is also paramount to us.
I also read about the MPG issues with this tire. Our RX is not the greatest on fuel economy and running it with Reg gas helps with the high fuel costs here in Canada -- yes, it runs fine.
I'd be very interested in reading if anyone here can vouch for the CC2 (19" V-rating) when it comes to (lack of) road noise and perhaps any fuel hit?
As well, I'm rather unfamiliar with this brand, but I also read good things about the Continental CrossContact LX25.
Are these also super quiet as well as passable for light snow and ice? Are they available in V-rating?

^^ See post no. 1070. I did quite a bit of tire research last year before installing a set of LX25 tires on my wife's 2015 RX350 FWD in August 2022. They are indeed a great bang-for-the-buck all-season tire. I cannot comment on their snow performance because she does not drive in the snow. That is my Outback 3.6R's job -- it is a veritable snowmobile.

Were they 19" and V-rated?
So many folks seem to be opting for H-rated tires on these cars.
Depending on the seller or even the manufacturer, that could be a mistake when it comes to warranty issues because [my] car's specs call for V-rating only ..and there's another gotcha!

They are 19-inch but I opted for the 101 H-rated version for two reasons:
1. Longer tread life.
2. The RX is NOT a performance vehicle and does not need V-rated tires.
I ordered them from my trusty local Discount Tire store manager (I have been dealing with him for more than a decade now) and he will have no problem with my 70,000-mile treadwear warranty on these tires. My receipt paperwork clearly shows that my 70,000-mile warranty is in effect.

Interesting. And I get what you're saying about speed issues.
Because no, I do not rally this car. Might say that we are defensive drivers.
Around here, there are so few folks selling Continentals. All the H-rated stuff is out of stock
If I demand V-rated then they are $pecial order on top of an already pricey tire.
As for opting for Michelin (specifically, Defender2 which tops out at H-rating) then I may have to sign a waiver absolving Costco from any responsibility when going to a lower rating.
However, Michelin CrossClimate2 is available in V-rating
Now that brings me back to Tire Rack's highly rated Pirelli Scorpion AS +3. If the local shops were to allow H-rating on this particular car, then repairs are accepted.
But again, these major tire shops won't put them on because of the Lexus tire specs, which wants V-rated tires.
They don't want to have to administer any warranty liabilities ..or worse.
However, taking all that into consideration and finding a dealer that will allow me to swap to H-rated tires --
How will that affect the tire's performance on this V-rated car? Will an 'advertised' quiet tire be even quieter?
The more I dig into these issues, the more my head hurts
