Default odometer input

Just a curious question as things have changed with technology....

Where and how does the odometer get it's mileage input from on a 2013 rx350?

I'm almost sure it's not like the old mechanical speedo cable like my last car had...
Or is it?

Thought it might be some type of magnetic sensor input from one of the tires but not sure.

Are there any shop manuals available that tell you how to take the car apart and put it back together?

I always get myself in trouble asking questions.....!

Was under the impression that it used a magnetic sensor pickup off the transmission. You really could not get an accurate value off the wheels since they can turn at different rates depending on whether you are going in a straight line or around a corner.

While I doubt there is one readily available for a 2013 RX350, you might go to your local library to see if they have any Chilton repair manuals for the RX350.

Please keep in mind that tampering with your odometer in any way is illegal.

It's probably digital as there is a speedo adjustment available in the Nav system under settings in case you replace the tires and the revolutions per mile decrease.

The '13 RXh uses a speed sensor input signal generated by the Skid Control ECU based on all four wheel speed sensors. That sensor input signal is sent over the CAN bus to the combination meter assembly. The combination meter updates the odometer based on the received signal.

As far as a repair manual goes, go to techinfo.toyota.com. All the Toyota & Lexus repair manuals and wiring diagrams can be found their for a fee.

Thanks Fam,

That's exactly what I was looking for!

I did all kinds of hacks on the '06 Goldwing, one was having a "true" or "+5v" input from the wheel sensor so you could do all kinds of creative things with it.

I'm considering hacking the reverse video input for other purposes than back-up...

But that's a whole nother thread....

What about the risk of voiding Lexus warranty when anything goes wrong as a rsult of hacking?
