Default 2010 Lexus RX350 Steering Wheel Wood Trim Color

Hello All

I recently noticed that the wood trim on my steering wheel is a lighter brown color than then the rest of the wood trim on my car. My steering wheel has never been replaced and it is the original steering wheel. Did the wood color start fading or do they just come like this? The rest of the wood is a darker deeper richer red color.

I hope anyone can post up pictures of their steering wheel and wood trimming for comparison.

Any comments and observations on your own car are greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

If the dealer agrees to change out the steering wheel, does anyone foresee anything that could possibly go wrong? I would rather leave it alone then risk having lets say an air bag blow up while I am driving or alignment that can't be fixed.

I have a light gray interion and all the wood matched in color which is the deep recdish one.

This is common. I also have parchment and the wood on the wheel is pretty close to the other wood color, but just slightly off. Part of it is due to the way the light hits the wheel versus the way the light hits the other wood surfaces. The smaller, rounder surface reflects light (and color) differently than the flatter, wider surfaces. I've noticed that the wood wheels on the Gen 2 RX's are far more different in color than the Gen 3 RX's.

Not uncommon. Remember the steering wheels come from a different place than the wood trim so you will have some variation because of that. Fading will occur on the wheel over time. I wouldn't bother trying to get a new steering wheel, it just wouldn't bother me..

So the consensus is it's normal...ok we will leave it at that...no point in changing it out even if the dealer is willing to because some other thing might get messed up

Ours is definitely darker than yours. I think the steering wheel may be darker than the rest of the interior now that I think about it, not sure. I'll take a pic this afternoon when I get home and post it.

I have seen many older Lexus with what appears a lighter steering wheel because it gets all the light from the windshield, and other wood appearing darker..I wish the 13's were lighter personally!

How come your car didn't come with a wooden steering wheel?

Because I'm special It's a feature of the sport package - no wood steering wheel or shifter. I've never had it on any of the RXs. And I prefer it that way.

The lower right side of the steering wheel seems a bit light but that's due to the angle of the picture. It looks uniform when I look at it from the front.
