While not the answer to your question (I'm returning from FL - but know that the measurements you need come with the BSM) here's how I ensured that mine was straight ( note the string between two wooden blocks stuck on with double sided tape):
What is not shown are the wooden jigs (guides) that I stuck on the car prior to applying the BSMs. I literally laid the molding onto the wooden guides (same as shown holding the string) while pushing the molding onto the very wax-free paint. There is no second chance (if the paint is properly prepared) at positioning the molding.
IIRC, the measurement is to the top of the black plastic rocker covers (as opposed to the ground); and the kicker is that the moldings are shaped (pointed) - which means accounting for the fatter/wider middle at the door opening - hence the string.
This set cost me about about four hours of my life; and I think I could do it again in an hour.
And yes, I chose Silver to go on the Gray (to match the Thule).
I think the complimentary color changed Alexis (car's name) from a fat girl into a sleek looker. The BSMs of the same color as the car merely add ding protection; but add nothing aesthetically.
I'd think silver would also go well since it matches the side roof rails.
Don't you think the silver made the car look shorter; and shrunk the doors from looking like a Dodge Mini Van?
QUOTE=billy44bo;6990578]Love them one my 450h and when the local Lexus dealer saw them on my car he now puts them on some of his new cars on the lot[/QUOTE]
Wow, love your car it Must be the ultimate premium package. Looks great!!
Take a picture, import it into MS Word, draw the line on the side of the vehicle with Word's drawing tools, and see if you like it. Sleep on it and show the picture to others for their thoughts. If you end up convinced that you like it, do it. It can always be removed if you change your mind.
Has anyone had bodyside moldings installed at dealers? Would it be wise to have them installed to protect your vehicle or are they a waste of money? Suggestions and or comments would be welcomed.
thx
You are talking about the door guards.... half-round that run in the middle to the doors front to back?
Sure the dealer can install them and so can any one else. Know how of prepping the location is needed ... wax needs to be stopped and good clean surface needs to be made ready.
It can help agains door dings, but from the other vehicle hitting your door. It still leaves a portion of the side exposed and some time things like carts can still damage your door.
Yup, that’s what I was referring to. I really haven’t seen many RX that have these moldings. I thought I was missing something.
Thank you for your comments.
It’s been very hard to find the correct measurements needed to install these BSM on a 2015 RX.
I called the dealer that I purchased my moldings from and would not share any information about installation.
I layed out a straight line height at 28.5” from the floor and it looks just a little to high. I guess I can send them back to the dealer or have them install them.
If any one has the correct height and would be willing to share that height I certainly would appreciate it.
Thank you.
