Exclamation Buying 2011 RX350 - need advice

Buying a one owner used RX350 AWD from the dealer with 30k for mid $20k.

New to the Lexus SUV world and could love some advice on what to look for, expect, do for buying this vehicle.

Current owner of an 04 LS430 with 150k and it still drives like a dream.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Be cautious, that price sounds too good to be true for a 2011 with 30k. Is it CPO? I'm in north Jersey and most of the AWD RX's for that year & mileage are low 30's at best.

I apologize it is Mid $30K.

I am looking for things I should be aware of such as features failing after time (for instance the motor in the side mirors on the LS are known to fail) or any mechanical issues I should be prepared for (LS requires changing timing belt and water pump at 90K) etc.... Thanks again.

Ah, ok. That makes more sense. I was about to ask you to help me negotiate my next car purchase!

I'll let some of the other members chime in on what to watch out for, but honestly I don't think there's much. I'm in a 2010 CPO; I know on the 2010's there was a window glass upgrade, not sure if it applies to the 2011's though.

If it's CPO make sure you're getting new tires and inquire about the brake pad life remaining. For that mileage I would want the 30k service to be done as well. Check the service history to see if it's consistent and performed at the proper intervals. The RX's run synthetic oil so oil changes are every 10k (unless you prefer a shorter interval).

One other thing, as you probably know we have quite a few dealers in NJ, with many pre-owned RX's in stock. Shop around and make them earn your business. Good luck!

InfamousLS, you can check this thread to see members' comments on their RXs. I'm nearing four years on the 450h myself. It's been solid. In fact every RX I've owned since 1998 has been very good overall. No major problems or issues. Just look at all the high mileage RXs in the 1st and 2nd gen forums and on the roads. Plenty around here. There's nothing that stands out in mind as far as quirks. Just make sure all the maintenance including the 30k service has been performed like RXinNJ said. And yes, we have plenty of dealers to choose from with inventory. Expect more used RXs to show up on the lot with Golden Opportunity going on. What kind of packages/options does the 2011 have?

Thank you all for the insight and thoughts.

I was wondering if there was a mojor service that should be done. Im going to be sure they include the 30K servicing. The car is not for me, it is for my Girlfriend and her only concern was that the steering was a bit unresponsive. Shes use to an older Honda Pilot that suposidly has tighter response, however I just told her that this is common for an SUV, in which she stated it handled more like a car than an SUV.

The dealer we are looking at now is Ray Catena. I purchased my LS from Bridgewater Lexus and couldnt be happier. Ray Catena is closer to her house which is why shes looking there.

Thanks again and if anyone has anything else to chime in about please feel free!

The 30K service should be enough for now. But I'd check tire brand and rim size. Michelins are the best of the three OE tires available. As far as rim size, that's subjective. Personally I like the 19"s. She may prefer the 18"s. I'd tell your girlfriend to drive both. If the RX has the comfort package, that includes the rain sensing wipers and HIDs. Most around here come that way. Yes, the steering wheel can feel numb. That's pretty normal and is part of the appeal of the RX for most people. She'd have to get the F-Sport for more responsiveness.

Good luck with Catena. I'm not familiar with them. I've been spoiled by Bridgewater for forever myself. I drive 30 miles to go there for service. They are the best. Hope it all works out for your girlfriend. Keep us posted.

Your biggest risk factor is tires. Check the brand, model and condition. Then read the tire threads in this forum. If you get an RX with junk tires, you will be paying $1000 to fix the problem with a new set of tires.

Just my two cents:

I agree with the UCSB. About the only thing to check out after the history of the RX are the tires. It will effect the ride.

$36,000-$39,000.
very low milage and it's loaded.

i traded my 2011 RX 350 with 21,200 miles, the dealer paid $30,500 for it. ( i know i was screwed)
i visit their website almost everyday and i just type my VIN number to search for my Previous RX350.
They're selling it now for $38,999 as a CPO.
