I feel a bit stupid as my son noted that the incoming text message seems to be displayed on the screen when we are stopped (not moving). It is read aloud in both cases. So maybe this is by design by Lexus <?> although I could not find it in the manual nor did the Lexus Tech nor dealer mention it.
I am curious if this is by design as I would guess maybe they do not want you to look a the screen to read the incoming message?
But there are preset messages that you have to look at the screen to select so that safety factor doesn't make sense. Also I think you can turn off the read aloud.

Though, it seems that your meeting with the tech was less than stellar or something was lost in translation during your meeting as to the true nature of your problem.

Oh I had met with the LTS when I got the car. Later I sent her email on the SMS issues and she sent me on to Lexus direct.
If they had noted in the manual, or let someone know, that the display only works when stopped, then I would have avoided this mess. I guess the last update they had fixed the issue with the missing REPLY button that I had also witnessed.
I still think it silly they not display the incoming SMS when you are moving since you still have to look at the screen to select a pre-selected reply. I do hear the incoming message (audio) but sometimes the voice does not pronounce the words correctly so i want see read it on screen.

I have a 2014 RX. It displays text from my iphone when I am moving.
I can't reply to Texts from the message screen, but I think this is an iphone thing. I can pull up Siri though and say "Reply to Last Text", it reply that way.
It's pretty kludgy, but Apple limits some things (little power mongers). I like Apple hardware, but they like to control things, especially in the IOS world) ;-)
