How much the dealer charges for labor?
My local mechanic does it for $15 bucks.

$60, not bad with using synthetic oil, it's less than what I spent in total (~$70)
I will go get a quote from my local toyota server center on my next oil change.

10,000 is the interval, as most members know.
studies have shown that you can go as far as 17,000 miles with a full synthetic

So, not trying to be smart here, BUT what makes 5,000 better? why not every 4,000? 3,750?
jiffy lube guys ( NOT endorsing/recommending them!!) says every 3,000.

anyway, i use mobil 1 0W-20 ( the same formula that Toyota have on their OEM)
filter is toyota
and i do it myself
If I must say, 5k is like a habit, a reminder, for me. No particular reason.

I don't argue with what you pointed out, and I am aware that most members do it at 10k interval, even the manual says so. However, I just don't mind spending ~$70 every 5k miles on it.

Thanks for the comment, I replied to markrivers that 5k is more like a habit/reminder for me, with no paticular reason on why I do it at 5k interval.

I see many of the members (those who replied to this thread and those who answer on some other threads) use Mobil One
At walmart, the 5 Qt jug Mobil-1 synthetic 0W-20 goes for $24 and change each (always plenty in stock), it is $2 cheaper than pennzoil (which almost always out of stock as if walmart doesn't bother restocking it).

I am not a professional driver who may be able to feel the difference nor am I bringing the oil to a lab for analysis; but perhaps I will go for Mobil-1 next time.

Who knows? perhaps Mobil-1 "gives me wings..."

Most Toyota shops today have an Express Lube Service with several bays dedicated to just these types of services. If you set an appointment you are pretty much guaranteed to get in and out in under an hour. No extras, but you know that going in. Take a lunch with you and relax for a few minutes.

Thanks for the information, my experience with lexus and toyota separtely are more than 2 hours wait time, just to get oil change (2 different cars, at 2 different service locations)

The parent company of these 2 dealerships appear decent, in juding how much money they spent in making the showrooms look great (make sense, since it's where potential buyers go) and I'd assume they'd invest in the sevice department as well.

I am not sure if they have such quick lube lanes like what you described, but the wait time was real, and I'd rather spend the money.

Note:
The toyota I owned offer 24-months / 24,000 miles maintenance free service (include free oil changes every 5k miles) while the standard 36-months warranty is still there.

But the dealership I got my RX from only gives 1st oil change free (but I still dont want to use hours of my time to save the ~$70 I spend for oil change)
