Default New Tires 2010 RX 350 Cost

I was told I needed two new tires for the car before winter. Cost quoted $574.62 including mount and balancing. Does this seem right....does not include cost of $110 for wheel alignment. Not sure of the brand...what have some others out there spent on tires?

Thanks,

i'd shop online at tirerack/discounttires or many other places, have them shipped to your house and carry it for install at any local shop. alignments are usually 60-80 around here as well, so maybe shop around for a better rate.

for two "brand" tires and alignment, $400-450 should be your max output with mount/balance/install/alignment IMO

welcome. moving to right forum.

(price seems incredibly high by the way - who 'told' you this, the dealer? try discount tire if you have one there.)

Contrary to what shops would like you to think, you do NOT need an alignment when you have new tires installed. You should have an alignment done if you notice uneven wear patterns on your tires or if the car pulls/drifts consistently to one side.

If the wheel lugs are torqued properly your alignment should be identical to what it was before the new tires were installed. If the alignment was fine before, then it should be fine after.

We've had the wheels aligned once on our Lexus in the past 2 years we've had it. Our bimmer has been rock solid too only needing 2 alignments in 7 years of ownership. It pays to avoid pot holes and crappy roads.

Thanks,
There is an existing tire thread here on 3rd Generation RX, so this may get moved yet again.

You will want to start at the end of this thread and work your way forward a bit to get yourself up-to-speed on recommendations for tires.

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...thread-15.html

The prices you mention are a bit high, however, it is hard to say by how much as you do not mention what tires they were looking to put on your RX. If they were putting on some expensive Michelin tires, which are not necessarily the choice for the RX, the cost is just a little high. If they were putting on something else it might be VERY high. So, your info is lacking in detail.

Also, for a one time alignment, their rate is very high. For a lifetime alignment that may be more reasonable. Again, lacking details.

Best to get other quotes for tires and services. There are probably Firestone Complete Auto Care shops in your area to get a quote on Bridgestone tires. If you are a member of Costco, that is also a good place to go for tires.

I think it's odd that you need two new tires as opposed to four. All four tires should wear at the same rate unless your alignment is so far out that it wore the front tires unevenly, or two tires were inflated incorrectly so as to cause premature wear.
Another poster mentioned Costco, but they won't install two tires, only four. At least here in CA.
American Tire and Costco quoted me $1,100 Out The Door for four Michelin Latitude Tour V tires. I like these because they have little road noise.
Please let us know, in detail, tire manufacturer and type, store name and price. Thanks.
Ray A.

BTW, I almost forgot... pdr53... what size tires are we talking about? Do you have the 18" or 19" wheels on your RX? It does affect price as well.

#1 crossover SUV tire according to tirerrack reviews are the Continental LX20. $1100 is a ripoff for a full set of tires installed, LX20 were a lot cheaper and continental has factory 1 year road hazard or first 2/32". You should not need an alignment for tires unless you are changing your tires because of bad alignment and need to get it fixed anyways.

Look at:
www.discounttiredirect.com
Excellent service, no hassle warranty. They stepped up this year on a mileage claim I had for my F150 with 18" tires.
Bought the tires originally over 3 years ago. We talked, we settled. 4 new tires at the door about a week later.
I'll buy the next tires there as well.
