In few days I am going to look at a 2010 RX 350, certified, with nav and all the typical features (moonroof, etc.) The car has 59,400 miles on it and it listed at the Lexus dealership at $27,995. At this mileage, I'm wary of the price, thinking if this were wintertime it would be a few thousand less; however, even by the KBB, it's thousands under blue book value.

Is this a decent list price? Any suggestions for a reasonable price point down to which I could negotiate? My wife really wants a certified car while I argue that the quality of these cars is such that we'd fare well with a non-certified version at a slightly lower price.

My trade is a 2012 GMC Terrain with nearly 50,000 miles on it, for which I would like to get $16,500-$17,000 (the latter being its blue book value). While the Lexus is older, I believe it to be ultimately a better car and a better one to hold on to for many years.

I'm green at negotiating, so any input is much appreciated. Thanks.

I'm told that the dealer cost for CPO is $1000, so you could save about that much if the dealer is willing.
I think the price is quite good, but I am not at all expert in that area.

...I discovered an identical RX 350 to the one I originally posted about earlier tonight. It is, however, at a Toyota dealership and lacks CPO that the Lexus dealer's car would have. But I believe it had a limited warranty of another kind...wouldn't it still have the remainder of the Lexus dealer warranty from when it was new?

This car at the Toyota dealer looks immaculate and only has 33,000 miles on it, for $29,900. Says it's a one-owner car; no clue about the carfax on it yet though.

Hard to decide which to look at first - the lower mileage on the one is great; the feeling (whether reasonable or not) that a used car from a Lexus dealer with CPO, but 20k plus more miles on it, may be better (?).

Joeland,welcome to CL. You are correct about the remaining basic warranty. In fact you can buy an extended warranty up until it expires for a term comparable to CPO. But you will need to know the in service date, or the original delivery date. There is a way for you to find out about that and the service history through the Lexus owners website. If you were to buy the second RX, you could bring it back to the Toyota dealer for service. The only exception is Lexus dealer for warranty repairs. Don't worry about whether it's a Toyota or Lexus dealer. Pick the one you like. And end of month a good time for get the best deal. Good luck.

KBB should not be used to determine true market value. It is not usually a reliable number. Go to edmunds.com. They have a calculator for true market value. This will take into account the area you live in and what others have paid. This would apply to the value of your trade in and the value of the RX

I would check Autotrader in addition to KBB. One reason is that prices vary by geographic region. Be careful to compare the options.
