Hi, I have a 2010 rx350 and had a big oil leak recently because the carshop didnt install correctly the oil filter seals it didnt leak right away and my wife drove till the check engine light came on, but it was late... no oil in the dipstick... I think no oil at all but the car didnt display low oil level warning. only a beep when i turned the steering wheel.

I had it towed and luckily my wife stopped the car when the light came on, no harm done the mechanic said. but i think it has less power and the engine noise is a littlle louder than before..., so maybe the engine has a Little wear. but there is no smoke.
should I continue to use the same thin oil.. 0w20. or use a thick like 5w30??

Sorry about the problem. I would continue using the same weight oil 0w20.

I will not go back to that place where you have your oil change. I would also document all I can so if any problem arise in the future you have some basis. You said the shop did not install the oil filter seal correctly? Was the filter defective? Was it cross threaded? It is very hard to install an oil filter incorrectly since you do it by hand and just tighten a bit. Incredible. Or was the drain plug leaking?

One of the reason I do my own oil change. I don't trust these lube oil places.

I think they over tightened the oil casing and it bit the small oil seal and leaked all the oil when it could hold the pressure. I think there is a warning in all of those filters but i dont remember what to watch for

Real incompetence to screw that up since almost every Toyota for the last 10 years or so has had this type of filter.

I think the warning light is for loss of oil pressure, not loss of oil volume. Although loss of volume will result in loss of pressure.

Get the oil changed again & have it analyzed. This will give you a baseline on how far the bearings are worn. Check it again in a couple weeks. Modern engines are pretty tough.

Brought an F150 home a couple years ago. Making a bit of a racket. Checked the dipstick in the driveway. Mechanic drained the oil, put on a new filter & parked it outside. He forgot about the part where you have to put oil back in.
