Tire tread on AWD RX-350
Is it true that the amount of tread on the front tires be the same as the rear tires? When I got the CPO vehicle, they installed new tires on the front but left tires with a little less than 5/32" on the rear.
I was told by a friend that with that much of a difference, it puts a strain on the drivetrain because the fronts are not spinning at the same rate as the rears because of the tread difference.
Asked the dealer to change the rears so they are putting the same kind of tires from a loaner that has 7/32" tread. Is this acceptable?
Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks,
David

Yes that will work out just fine and not strain the system.

The CPO process usually insures the wear items on the car have not gone beyond a minimum threshold. Tires, brakes, lubricants, sheet metal damage/dings, interior scuffs etc. Find out what the tread must be to pass the CPO process. You might be able to get a new pair out of them but it's another hit to their bottom line.
Slight differences in tire height are not an item to worry too much about. Two different size ties on the same axle is another matter.
Tires on every corner wear slightly differently, regular tire rotations pay in the long run.
The whole process is designed to attract used buyers into a vehicle that won't need too much/any attention right away.
It's not free as a CPO may show a higher sticker price than the next car.
