Newbie intro plus headlight/LED DRL question...
Hello folks. My mom just picked up a CPO 2013 RX350 and I have a quesiton on her behalf. She'd like to have the LED DRL's on during the daytime, but have control over when she turns on and off the headlights at night. In order to achieve the latter, she has to keep the stalk on manual control. But that seems to disable the DRL's during the day. Is there a setting that allows the LED DRL's to be on during the day, but allow her to manually turn on her lights at night with one click or flick? I've checked the manual for all possible combinations, but nothing seems to allow the LED's on during the day unless you throw the whole thing in auto mode. I noticed the same issue with my 2014 IS loaner car.
Thanks for the tips and here's a quick nigth pic. She got it with the sport appearance package, if I understand correctly. And for 2013, the silver would be Silver Lining, correct?
So far, so good. It's a very nice car and she will get many miles out of it. One thing I am kind of suprised over is the amount of engine noise during acceleration. Her old Acura MDX was much quieter. Once the rpm's settle down though, it's typical Lexus.
Lastly, I noticed the chrome trim below all the side windows have tiny specs of rust. Common? This makes no sense in sunny Southern California. I have yet to wax everything.

Congrats on her new ride, it's a looker! We also have a '13 and love it.
I do not believe there is a way to use DRLs while maintaining full control of the headlights at night, since the DRLs are paired with full auto mode for headlight control. Note that she can change the settings about how dark it needs to be for the headlights to come on. I adjusted mine so they come on earlier, at just the start of dusk.
Yes, the silver is indeed Silver Lining Metallic, as I recall.
We have not experienced any rust spots on the chrome trim on ours. It is perhaps some rail dust, though I haven't heard of that rusting on trim like that, though I'm sure it's possible. Search "Industrial Fallout" and you should find some good tips about how to get rid of it.

Try a little detailing clay on the chrome below the windows before you wax it. I bet it comes right off. If it's there, it is likely in the paint, too. Claying the car is really a rewarding step in the polishing process, and will make the paint feel like glass.
Check out the Club Lexus "Automotive Care & Detailing" forum. There is always good information in the forum, and a bunch of knowledgeable folks that love to help with this kind of issue.

Thanks all for the replies. Looks like she'll have to get used to keeping the lights on automatic. She really wants those LED's on during the day. Can't say that I blame her.
Will do a full wax soon and then a clay if the wax doesn't do it. My IS250 needs it too, so I got quite a workout ahead of me.
Cheers to all.
