Bought a '13 RX 350 CPO from Rohrich Lexus in Pittsburgh.
It has 16,800 miles on it. It's the wife's daily driver.
She tells me the brakes are making noise today.
I drive it...sure enough sounds like metal on metal coming from the left front.
Like the pads are worn and they are scraping the rotor. No pulsation through the pedal though.
I used a pressure washer to make sure there is no brake dust build up or debris between the
pads & rotor. The rotors look ok, no pitting or scoring.
At 17K the pads CAN'T be worn already?!
I'll jack it up tomorrow and take the wheel off for a better inspection.
Any suggestions??
mcw951, the best thing to do is bring your RX to the selling dealer or the nearest one to you. The mileage is too low for the pads to be worn. It is covered under the CPO warranty. Good luck and keep us posted.
Agree with Anita to bring it in to get it checked. As part of the CPO, brakes need to be at a certain pad/rotor life threshold, otherwise they replace them.
So I take a look at the pads and this is what I find...16,800 miles mind you!
Outer pads had 5-8mm of material, both inner pads had 0-3mm.
Glad I caught this before the rotor got destroyed.
I installed new pads, the wife needs a vehicle tomorrow to haul her grand kids around.
Our buying experience at Rohrich was quite unremarkable...so I won't be calling the dealer.
I will talk to Lexus CS tomorrow. VERY disappointing!
Who said that break pads covered under CPO??? Even original lexus warranty doesnt covers break pads as it considered a wear and tear item.
I can see why you are disappointed, and you have every right ti complain to the dealer, yet I am not so sure they are liable to replace it. Dealers job to make sure it passes the inspection, at the time of the purchase it probably did. how long ago did you purchase the vehicle?
I wouldn't expect the dealer to cover the pads.
But I've read many threads here from owners who get 40,000-60,000 miles out of a set of pads.
I've always done my own work and have never seen a set of pads this worn after only 16K.
The wife is very gentle on the brakes as well.
After owning 3 4Runners over the past 12 years...I "upgraded" and got the wife an RX in July.
Something else I noticed while changing the pads...the windshield is not OEM Lexus!
I'm thinking maybe a GLA would have been a better bet?!
Unfortunately this is what you get when you buy a used car. I inow lots of folks who always get a really good car but I never buy used bc of things like this.

Ahaha yeah. I remeber back in 2000's when they just start to come out with the CPO term, i thought , what a pile of BS. I uave have noticed the CPO vehicles have improved as back then all cars were CPO
CPO means it has to meet a minimum, brake pads included. mwc951, I suggest you contact Rohrich Lexus in the morning to let them know the condition. I understand you're upset and probably don't want to talk to them. But please give the dealer the opportunity to investigate before calling corporate. Good luck.
As others have said, CPO should have more pad life remaining. Hope the dealership does right by you. While you had the calipers part, hope you lubed the pins etc...the inner vs outer pad wear difference might mean something might be sticking. Just out of. Curiosity, what pads did you choose?
Mike, like Anita said contact the dealer and show them the pad if you still have it, at least the photo you posted. It just seems strange they'd be that worn with the miles shown. If it were me, I'd also run a carfax report just to validate the miles. And yes, I think they should be covered if your paperwork shows it as a CPO sale.

Wagner Ceramic pads, I'm usually more picky about my parts, but needed to get the vehicle back on the road ASAP.
The closest dealer (Rohrich) is 60 miles away, so I opted to DIY.
The purchase experience was unimpressive...I didn't even fill out the survey...which they begged me to give them good marks...I doubt I'll be calling Rohrich about this.
