Default dealer paint protection

looking at buying a black rx fsport shortly, my dealer has something they call E
IBEX paint protection(also for the inside leather which I'm not interested in)
quoted me $500 for the exterior treatment. with all the concern about black paint i'm thinking of getting this or something similar if I could find it afternarket cheaper.

anybody know of this product or have any comments about dealer installed paint protection products?

thx

My dealer tried to sell me door ding protection and a clear bra, but my guess is that this is some sort of sealant. Depending on the quality of the product and the skill of the person that applies it, it may or may not keep the soft Lexus black paint from showing every swirl the car wash puts in the paint. There are a LOT of options that you could consider, but for me, none of them include anything the dealer sells. I would suggest that you ask this question on the Automotive Care and Detailing section of this forum for some really well informed responses. Maybe one of the moderators could move this to that forum.

Look into OptiCoat. I've read a LOT of good things about it, and it seems like it might be a really good option.

Dealers (the finance guy) will try to upsell you to make more money. All you get is the same services you would outside of the dealer, at a significant markup. Skip all of them.

As the others have said save your money... Check out a recommended professional detailer in your area and see what options he can provide you with..

I too have heard of OptiCoat, supposed to be real good.

If there's anything I would recommend getting, it would be the clear car bra. I bought a roll of bulk clear film for $70 and applied on the bottom part of the hood. For the STi, I am getting a full pre-cut film kit. That was $300.

I bought and had a professional installer put on the 3M protective film on all the front painted surfaces, lights, and it goes up about 24" on the hood. Total cost was about $450. Bug protection here in the South.
