Alternative tire sizes for a 19" wheel
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can provide feedback using any alternative tire sizes, different from OEM.
235/55-19 Original Tire Size
These are the alternative Plus Zero sizes:
225/55-19
245/55-19
255/50-19
255/55-19
265/50-19
Would like input on handling/drivability after using modified tread width. My search started in the tire thread but it digressed and quickly evolved into something else.
thanks,
AC

you will have a smaller contact patch with the 225/55, better mpg due to less rolling resistance, but decreased stopping.
245/55-19
255/50-19
255/55-19
265/50-19
....these all have a larger contact patch, less mpg than OEM sizing, shorter braking distances possible in the dry. Also quicker wear characteristics if the compound is the same to that of an OEM sized tire due to the contact patch. Those with a 50 series sidewall will be slightly stiffer and should roll side to side less than the 55 series aspect ratio.

255-50-19 is almost the same diameter as stock. It is designed for a wider wheel. Here are links to a couple of tire size fitment calculators http://www.willtheyfit.com/

Our stock wheel width is 7.5" and our offset is 35.

To the OP, what are you looking to accomplish? Are you looking for a more flush/wider look..ie even with the wheel wells?

255-50R19 would be my preferred size. I wouldn't go any wider than that on a 7.5" rim.
I have been running 255-55R18 as my winter set. I went wider to compensate for less-grippy winter tires and it has worked very well.

for $50 more than what 19" tires were going to cost me i got 18" tires/wheels & sold the 19" wheels
the new wheels were 12lbs lighter each, so less unsprung weight & better fuel economy
& all future tire purchases will cost a little less
plus the new wheels looks a little cooler than the generic OEMs

just another option to add to your thought process

Edit: responded in 2015.... 245/45/19 is an acceptable plus zero sizing. 29.61" diameter with a 1.48% increase over stock

.5 of an inch won’t be too much of an issues with power or odo, and a lot cheaper than buying new wheels AND new tires

sounds like you've made your mind up and will accept the affects. The engineers already calculated the correct diameter for both the OEM 18 and 19" wheels. Good luck.

Just get a softer riding tire in the proper size as that alone can change your butt-o-meter feeling.
. Go to www.tirerack.com and see which tires are rated as having the best ride. It can make a big difference as sidewall stiffness varies a lot among not just brands, but tire models within a brand. What is on the vehicle now?

you should be fine, i corrected my post. My response back to the original thread starter in 2015 ( post #2) was correct. However i must have entered your requested size in my calculator wrong before responding to you. 245/55R19 is an acceptable plus zero sizing.
