Switched -- does mean when you turn off the vehicle the power shuts off. The other thing is when the key is turned to start the power is cut off and turn back on when you are in 'run' position. Switched means power in ACC mode and RUN mode [please translate to key less].
Cig-ligter and accessory sockets are switched.

It looked to me that the car making the left turnt BEFORE the intersection was CLEAR. I think the car with the dash cam clearly had the right of way.
Do you think the car with the camera could have stopped safely before the intersection? I don't know if the video is in real time but I think I counted four "Mississippis" from the time the traffic light turned yellow until the two cars collide. Does the dashcam show the speed?
When I turn left without a protected left, I err on the side of caution. That is, I wait for the oncoming traffic to fully stop before I turn. I'd rather **** off the ones waiting for the intersection to clear on their green light.

We have Mobius Action Cameras in our vehicles but that decision was made based on availability and information a number of years ago. I'd highly recommend that anyone looking to buy one today use resources such as DashCamTalk for the latest info.
Some do, some don't. If that's a desired feature then one needs to make sure that it is something that the camera offers.
Need is up to the individual to determine just as it is with any topic. Have you never been stuck in a "he said, she said" situation? A dash cam can make the difference. I haven't needed mine since getting ours even though I've been in at least one accident since then. However, I have been in an accident prior to getting them where I wished I had them. Whether or not to get one is your call to make.

Advice pls: rear dashcam wire vs c pillar airbag
I just installed a VIOFO 4K dash cam in my RX350. Check out the video if you want to do the same thing!

thanks in part to your video, i've routed my power cable behind the a pillar airbag on the driver side already, similar to what you've shown in your detailed video. however, i'm not quite certain from your video where the curtain airbags are above the b and c pillars? can you help us out with a few pics or draw a diagram by annotating a pic of your c pillar + roof liner?
thank you so much.
