Recently upgraded my '13 RX450h to '15 RX450h. I like the look of the roof rails. None of the ones on the lot had the roof rails, so the dealership said they would install some for me.

Then they told me that the 2015s no longer come with roof rails. And they couldn't install rails from a 350 - or put the rails that were on my 2013 onto the 2015.

Another dealership told me that only the AWD 2015s have rails.

I'm thoroughly confused... the dealership promised me rails, and now they are claiming it's not an option. They were also saying if it was an option, it would cost $4600 to install. Obviously, this is a bunch of crap.

So what is the story on roof rails on a 2015 FWD? I really like the look of the car with them even though I understand there is a minor mileage impact. Can anyone explain clearly if 2015 RX450h's do not come with roof rails, and if they don't, can other roof rails be installed? I would like to be somewhat informed before calling the dealership and escalating this.

This is very interesting. I read this and thought "no way". But I just looked at over 100 online postings of 2015 RX450h models and couldn't find any FWD models with the roof rack. So I looked at the Lexus site and it lists the roof rack cross bars as an accessory, with this note: "For RX Hybrid vehicles, available for AWD models only."

I wish the entire roof rail / rack system was a dealer installed option. I'd much prefer my 2015 RX 350 without any roof rack. Mine came with the crossbars, which are an option but they were a factory installed option so I had to take it that way. I had the dealer remove them and sold them to another RX owner, but the rails are still installed. I've seen RX's with the roof rails deleted and I think they look much better, sleeker, etc. To each his own I guess.

To each their own. I love the roof rails. Very practical when you need to carry something large in a pinch, say a ladder. They look good too.

I once saw a kit for the removal of the rails. I think I saw it on the Sewell site. If I remember, it was around $100. Check it out.

I wish all of them had the rails, they look terrific! If I only use them once a year, they payed for themselves.
