Default 3rd Gen Price Drop After 4th Gen Introduced?

Hey,

I'm wondering if we can expect a price drop on the 3rd Gen RX's (2010-2015) when the 4th Gen RX's hit the showrooms?

I figure lots of people will be trading in the 3RX's for the 4RX's, creating a flood of used 3RX inventory.

Any thoughts?

im sure it will a bit but you also got to think that the RX is rated as one of the most reliable vehicles out, so hopefully that will keep pricing high.
Will be interesting though, around here, unless its a service loaner for sale you will have a hard time finding a used RX. People buy them and keep them

Doubt we will see much of a drop honest. Especially here in the UK. The '16 RX is set for a fairly significant price increase compared with the outgoing '15 model. Think that will maintain strong interest in the 3rd Gen quite high in the 2nd hand/ nearly new market regardless of the new '16 sales.

I just picked up my 2015 today. No haggle pricing of 11.5% under MSRP - $50,114 for $44,402 before tax, license and registration.

I had to buy more car (packages) than I wanted, but the price was great. If you're in the market, I advise you to move fast because pickings are starting to get slim.

Probably not suddenly as dealers own the vehicles according to market value at the time of their purchase. Additionally, the market has known of the up and coming RX models so the prices already reflect that news.

Dealers still can get "dealer cash" incentives to unload models even after they have them on the lot for a while..

Usually residual value in lease agreements drop as the model year gets near its end. The RX residual is the same now as it was in January. In addition dealers are getting a $2,000 cash incentive to lease RX's now. Lexus is trying to clear the lots for the new models. You can get a $5,000 cap cost reduction now in a lease before even negotiating. If you buy outright there is no dealer cash now.

I bought a RX450h last week about 10% below MSRP. It wasn't a 'clean deal' since I had two cars to trade in, so my negotiation was focused on the "out the door price" and trade in offers. They gave me $3,500 more for my F-150 trade and $1500 more for my CT200h trade than CarMax offered.

I hope the prices drop a bit, but that's only because I plan on purchasing a CPO 2013 or newer RX. I plan on looking seriously starting in January and will be ready to buy anytime thereafter.

Not replacing my RX300 though, just adding to the fleet!

(somewhat tongue in cheek) If the '16s front end looks as out of whack in person as it does in pix, I suspect the price of current RX's to go up.

John,

What is typical with drastic changes is that initially some of us don't like the changes but after a while they grow on you. Once that happens the previous generation models seem dated.

It's just human nature.

I just picked up my new RX350 on Friday...I love it, and I got 5000.00 off . This RX had many options that were rare without a special order, so I felt quite pleased. I was told at the dealership that many were going after the RX 350 now because they don't like the larger size of the 2016 or the looks. I personally think there will be a run on the 2015's because it is the last year of this model, and folks like the body style. I also find it amazing to see so many older RX's on the road. I saw over 5 RX300's yesterday while out and about with the two toned paint they used to have. Still very sharp looking, so I don't think it will look dated anytime soon.

I just bought a 2015 RX-350 with luxury package. Got $3000 off the sticker but also got $35,000 trade in for a 2012 Chevy Avalanche. Trading in the Avalanche reduced my 6% PA state tax bill quite a bit. So not a straight purchase because of the trade in but I did all of my dealing via email. Drove the Chevy into the dealer at 10:30 AM and drove the new RX-350 out at 1:30 PM same day. Looking at the deal and what dealers are offering for Avalanche trade ins, I estimate that I really got $5,000 of the RX and $33,000 for the Avalanche. Obviously the dealer can massage these figures to suit the customer's demands and still maintain their profit goals. The Avalanche was online the next day and sold off the dealer's lot 5 days after that. They still have 61 2015 RX's left to sell with the new ones coming in November.

The new RX is going to be killer IMHO and I think it smokes the existing model. I might even go for that next spring; Very interested in the new features:

30 more HP
Larger interior, backseat
8 speed transmission (hope they solve the "hunting" issues)
panoramic roof
lower cost of safety features like radar cruise control
rumored adaptive headlights
LED headlights
12" screen
Goodyear adaptive tires
shift lever moved off dash to create more user space
sequential turn signals
hovering over Lexus logo opens trunk
power folding rear seats
others feature improvements I can't recall!
