South Africa, well the whole continent of Africa is a law unto itself - A red traffic light here is a suggestion...... Yep we probably do have emissions testing but few take any notice and many just remove the cat converter - problem solved. We are very 3rd World here in some respects and amazingly 1st World in others - go figure. I found that my 2007 Landcruiser 100 VX for example did not have a cat converter and I was expecting it to have one. I was going to remove it when I fitted a free flow exhaust and chipped the engine. !!

I'm not a mechanic so I really couldn't tell you but I bought my 100VX, the last of the 100's here in 2007 with 19K (Kms) on the clock, we altered the car extensively for overlanding through africa which is what we do for a hobby.
A couple of people since then said hey what are you going to do about the Cat as they all give trouble eventually - basically I did nothing. Until about three years ago.
We are very heavily over-loaded - long range fuel tank, fully kitted, rear seats removed, RR, roof top tent, water tank etc etc and whilst the 100VX is turbo boosted with the steep hills that we have here you gotta get up speed down the hill to make it up the other side - so eventually I decided I would go the route of others and have the vehicle chipped.
So step one was to remove the cat and fit a freeflow exhaust - off the car went and the mech says to me.... Hey you don't have a Cat - go figure. So I thought that maybe the previous owner had removed it, but he knows even less about cars than I do and apart from fitting ARB bumpers back & front & a snorkel he says nothing else was done. So what can i tell you. The car goes really well now but I obviously I watch the EGT
Can't tell you more than that - but warning lights can be disconnected like when we took the height control system out to make it more 4x4 off road friendly and fitted OME Shocks, and stopping the seat belt alarm from moaning at you cos you refuse to be strapped in (this is africa remember)
