It's never a good idea to let fuel run continuously low. The pump relies on being submerged in fuel to keep the pump itself cool. If you always run fuel too low you are actually contributing to a shorter pump life. We all know the cost involved in pump replacement. I never let mine run below a 1/4 tank.
