Vent cleaning - Dealer selling service
So I drop my car off for the 90k service a few weeks ago, and they try to sell me vent cleaning..
I own different cars for almost 20 years, I guess its like your home central ac, the ducts needs to be clear out (germs, spiders, etc). Does a car really needs the hoses/ducts cleaned ? I figure if you're ocd or germ freak, you might want it.
Anyone ever had this one ? They wanted 199 for the service.
I laughed and said no.

I would have done the same. I find it funny how dealers will try to sell you anything for the most outrageous price possible. I haven't had that service brought up on me yet and I wouldn't be surprised if I go in next time and I get something stupid like that thrown at me.

Found someone had did it for the IS. Might be similar. Definitely not worth 199.. I might do some research and make a diy if there isn't one yet.

That is simply using this stuff. I have done it a couple times and still have a bottle. It works and is easy to do yourself. Remove your cabin air filter first!
I think there is a thread about it on this forum. You only need it if you have smelly A/C

Lol.. i own cars so long and never heard of the service before.. I mean for you house, ie central air , cleaning the ducts is probably a must if you own the house for 30 years... but never for a car..

It's not that uncommon to grow mold and/or mildew on evaporator coils in climates where AC is used frequently. It's a simple fix to use proper chemicals applied properly.
For cars that gave propensity to develop musty odors it's recommended to run the fan without compressor for a few minutes before shutting off the car. This allows the evaporator to dry out.
Home central air conditioners help to prevent this by allowing evaporator fans to run for a short period of time after compressor shuts down. This is called purge mode.

When setting up the nursery, we put in a Winix WAC5500 HEPA air cleaner. The sensor is quite sensitive to dust and odors (it'll go from green to red if you fart in front of it... the baby has proven this many, many times). After moving in and getting set up, we ran the AC and the Winix IMMEDIATELY went from green to red after sensing the dust coming from the vents. We got a reputable duct cleaning company to come out to do perform their service and the Winix has since stayed green with the AC running most of the summer.
