I was a happy guy...
... until I drove for some days a brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee.. the ride was so smoother than my 2010 RX 450h, that I have started to thinking about a shock absorbers replacement (my RX has some 75000 miles). I loved also the quietness of the Jeep engine, but I can live with the hoarse voice of the Lexus 6 cylinders.

I was debating a Jeep Grand Cherokee before purchasing our 2013 CPO RX350. I only drove the cherokee twice but did put about 20 miles on it over several road conditions and speeds. I did not find it as refined as the RX350. Granted they are two different vehicles with the grand cherokee having a transfer case and 4lo, but I still liked the RX350 better.

While I think the Grand Cherokee's look good, especially in SRT trim (briefly considered one), there are just too many issues with them. I know they sell a ton of them, but I just can't bring myself to buy one
Not to mention the stories I've heard about dealing with Chrysler service.

Back when Lexus were on the higher side of the cost point, people with Jeeps and other cars used to make fun of us and call us yuppies, money bags, etc. they all have had an average five cars to our one Lexus. How many ten year old Jeep Grand Cherokees are on the road compared to twenty year old Lexus? Better question yet. How many old bimmers are in the road compared to Cherokees. Kinda scary when the German cars outlast them by a long shot. Now that their prices are on par with Lexus, it seems a foolish move. To each his own though....

One of the comments to it made me chuckle. It went something like: "...95% of Jeeps are still on the road. The other 5% made it home safely...".
My daughter just bought one; and two good friends own one - and I cannot bring myself to forward that video to them (though I'd love to).

In December 2007, I bought a year old BMW X3. I beat the guy down to $26k, which the local BMW dealer said he would have asked $35k. I got a ration of crap at work about 'ohhh, you can afford to drive a BMW!!' Well, I had been out looking at 4x4 GMC small pickups for $35k, so this was a bargain.
Yesterday, I bought a loaded 2015 RX FWD for $35.5, and will be only the second Lexus in my office (handful of older BMW's, a Mercedes, numerous Accrura's).... and I'll get the 'ohhh, you must be loaded, you bought a Lexus!!' Half those are guys that drive $50k pickup trucks, or have a $35k motorcycle home in the garage (oops, I have a $25k Z4 in the garage).
It's all perception.

My 13 CPO RX 350 cost less than my new 08 silverado did 8 years ago. The Chevrolet with only 66,000 miles already has a cracked dash in 2 places. Pictographs are worn off the remote. Leather drivers seat has edge cracking. New front brakes and rotors at 38000. This was due to the dreaded death wobble associated with over torqued wheels from the factory. Front brakes on my 04 Camry lasted 105,000 miles.
While considering the Grand Cherokee before the RX350 the prices were less than $1000 apart.

It was not my intention to start a discussion about Cherokee MY 2016, which I liked enough, but I think is well below the Lexus class, in terms of quality of finishes and richness of equipments, and ultimately cost; hence the two cars are not comparable if not for the size.
I just wanted to highlight that the Cherokee is soft on the bumps in the road just as I wish was my RX.
There is also to say that, unfortunately for me, in terms of smoothness there is a huge difference between the roads I have traveled with the Cherokee (I was in Orlando, FL) and the cobblestone paved streets I travel with my RX (I live in Rome, IT ).
