No argument there. But it's the swoopy styling that takes away things like headroom and stuff. I would know, I have both cars sitting my driveway side by side........
Thanks. Your post got me thinking and checking them out. Below are the dimensions I found online. They are closer than I thought. While the interior volume of the 2001 is bigger, most seating dimensions are close or a bit smaller than the 3RX (I used a 13 for comparison). The real difference is in cargo room.

Passenger Volume:
2001: 104 cu ft
2013: 99.7 cu ft
Front Leg Room
2001: 40.7"
2013: 43.1"
Rear Leg Room
2001: 36.4"
2013: 36.8"
Front Head Room
2001: 55.2"
2013: 55.5"
Rear Head Room
2001: 55.2"
2013: 54.5"
Front Shoulder Room
2001: 57.8"
2013: 58.0"
Rear Shoulder Room
2001: 57.0"
2013: 57.6"
Cargo Volume
2001: 32 cu ft
2013: 40 cu ft

I'll be shuttling baby to daycare every morning - is it a pain to get the seat in and out, or is the inconvenience more driven by the fact the passenger seat is barely usable once the infant seat is in? We have a Graco Snugride. Good call on the GS though - definitely a no brainer based on the cost. Assume the power of the IS350 is plenty for daily driving fun though?
I never had a problem getting the seat and/or kids in or out of the back seat. My only issue was the reduced room in the front seat. With the RX for a family vehicle, I would have continued to deal with it and be okay with it if not for the amazing GS deal.

As for power, no complaints from me on the IS. I always had fun with it.

Great - thanks again for all of the information. Immensely helpful. Will post back here on how things work out.

this is, again, well different than what I see on the web and how I feel when I get in the car......... perhaps your info is more accurate than mine. I don't know for sure......

2001 RX Passenger volume109.9 cu.ft. (not 104 which you posted)
Interior cargo volume39.8 cu.ft (not 32 which you posted)

That compares to 100 cu ft, and 40 cu ft, respectively, for the 13 model.

My source: https://www.cars.com/research/lexus-...AeVRkK2aKE6.99

http://www.thecarconnection.com/spec...4wd_dimensions

not super important, but there must be a factory link that tell us all this...........

I got the 2001 interior volumes from here:

Definitely conflicting information out there. I don't know which is correct.

Perhaps, if you ran the VIN's for each year model through a Lexus VIN decoder and review the referenced specifications, PERHAPS the decoder references actual Lexus-supplied data tables??

I wouldn't worry about it too much. The OP isn't looking for a 2001 anyway. I'm afraid I led us on a bit of a sidetrack. I loved the first gen RX, so I enjoyed looking them up again. I test drove them a few times but never bought. Great vehicles.

Best of luck to the OP in finding the right vehicle for him and his new family.
