ASL automatic sound levelizer
not sure mine is working. It doesn't get louder as the speed increases and it doesn't get softer as the speed decreases. It pretty is wasting valuable display screen real estate with no effect on sound.
You guys think my radio is broken?
where is the location of the sensor or mike that is supposed to pick up noise?

You may find that it's not Speed related - it's Noise related. Try setting the volume at a level just loud enough to hear the music while at some reasonable vehicle speed. Then roll the windows down (or open up the sun roof) - and notice that you can still hear the music (despite the added noise).
Then try it with the ASL off.
I find it subtly effective; and give them two thumbs up.

I have an ES300h, but I also don't see any auto sound leveling happening. Maybe it is so subtle its hard to notice?

Ok, I'm no expert but here is my take.
I used to have 2002 es300 with mark levinson audio system which also has this auto sound option and now I have the 2010 rx350 with same ASL option. In my Es 300 it seemed that this ASL functioned where it was noticeable. Louder the road noise radio maintains the volume level by automatically increasing it so your radio is not drowned out by the road noise. As I said it was very noticeable in my 300. Now for the RX350 Lexus must have changed something that it is not as noticeable but it does work (at least) in my RX. But it's useless IMO because it does not maintain the volume when at highway speed and I keep having to reach over and adjust the volume manually. I tested it at low speed (<35 mph) with Windows open and noted that I cud still hear the radio without manually adjusting volume, But when I get on a highway it fails to keep increasing it. Perhaps some sort of safety feature IDK. Hope that helps. Cheers
