Default Do you have to drain the filter before you change the oil filter

I find it just as easy to remove the entire canister and let the oil drop into the pan, without removing the bottom drain and using the annoying plastic piece supplied with the filter.

I agree. Big pan, pull canister, and let it drain.

Ditto! I never had any luck with the plastic drain. It just creates a bigger mess.

I have replaced the RX's oil twice and I still forget to bypass the cover drain step. I agree it is a waste of time. Unscrew the cap and go for it.
