I found the YouTube video of the disassembly of steering column.
Instead of swapping housings, would swapping locking module work? This is shown 30 seconds into video. Is the key programmed to this module? Not sure if drilling out bolts is easier than removing the housing bolts.

Any fixes found for rattling steering columns?
Hey everyone,
I have a 2010 Lexus RX350 with the infamous steering column rattle. Some people have reported being able to find used steering columns on eBay that they swap In from a 2013 or later.
Is there anyone who has figured out any other way to fix this issue such as a repair instead of replacing the entire steering column/motor assembly? Perhaps just a grommet needs to be replaced or something..
Thanks!

I have no idea. I think some earlier posts indicate dealer pricing. You could ask them yourself.

Does anyone know if the newer models have the same issue. I have a 2015 RX 350 and when I try to slowdown from a fast stop I hear a load rattle in the steering column. There is no vibration and the car isn't pulling from side to side - just a loud rattle. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I Bought my 2013 Rx350 back in 2018 with 35k miles. It had that rattle or noise when turning the steering wheel left to right back and forth and also when going over bumps. On 2019 I replaced the steering rack and outer tie rods as the noise seemed to come from the rack. The noise/rattle was gone. Now it has 40k miles and recently, I am experiencing a similar rattle/noise but seems to be on the intermediate shaft.

Update
Today I replaced my intermediate shaft 45220-0E020 with the updated part 45220-0E021. While having the intermediate shaft removed from the steering column I turned the steering wheel left to right back and forth and the noise/rattle was present. So the problem is the steering column. However the new u joints were smoother than the old ones. Felt like the grease was dry on the old ones.
My 2013 RX350 came with steering column part no 45250-0E081. There is an updated part no 45250-48241. I assume those who replaced their steering column with the one ending in 0E081 will eventually get the noise/rattle again. Only time will tell. I will wait til the column gets worse before replacing it since it is not cheap at all.

I have a 2013 RX350 (I'm the single owner, never replaced the steering column) having a rattling noise when going over rough terrain or even sometimes braking hard (any time there's some sort of vibration that's at a specific frequency seems to cause the rattling). The noise does seem to come from the steering wheel area. Seems that even though "officially" this issue was solved in the 2013 models, seems like a few people on this thread have had noise even with 2013 models (including me). Also, it seems like the component in the steering wheel that causes the noise is not the same in all cases. I found this video that seems to solve the noise for a 2013 RX350:
They just replaced a the part # 45254-28040, a $10 part. I'm debating if I want to experiment with my 2013 RX350, or if I should just go the f-it option and go to the dealer to see if they diagnose it.

I am 99% positive this will fix the issue as I have been looking for a fix for some time. I am not a professional mechanic but a DIYer.
I would love to see if anyone else has fixed this issue with the above method?
thanks!

Well today was a bit of a disappointment. First off, I was successfully able to remove the motor for the steering column without having to take the entire assembly out. I had to remove the lower dash pieces and the driver’s knee airbag, plus one small computer out, and I was able to use a swivel head 3/8 ratchet wrench to remove the 2 bolts that hold the little motor to the assembly. I’ll attach a few pictures.
Sadly, the damper was not degraded. It actually looked nearly brand new. I replaced it with the part from the video, and it may have slightly helped, but I think that is not the actual culprit for the rattle. I probably will have to get a 2013+ steering column to swap in eventually to fully fix the issue.
If anyone has any comments feel free to share. It was at least worth trying this before spending $700+ on a used steering column.

Found this from:http://carspecmn.com/2010-2011-rx350...e-dash-rattle/
2010, 2011 RX350 steering column rattle, dash rattle
CARspec recently had the opportunity to address the too-common rattle out of the steering column on 2010 and 2011 Lexus RX350 SUVs. When driven over washboard roads with the steering wheel level, a rattle noise from behind the instrument cluster/steering column area is becoming increasingly common.
This issue is internal to the column’s power steering assembly. Internal components to the power steering gear loosen slightly when the gear is unloaded (centered not turning) causing a moderate rattle. Here’s the steering column removed from the vehicle.
RX350 Steering Rack Rattle – “The Raygun”
Highlighted in what CARspec believes in the area the noise comes from. The unit cannot be disassembled and must be replaced to correct the noise. Fortunately Lexus has re-engineered the assembly to prevent the issue reoccuring. We’ve yet to see the issue come back on the update part.
