Lexus Champion
If this rattle problem is like other Toyota/Lexus models of the same era you need the intermediate shaft

That's sad news, I was hoping the damper part was the issue for us with 2013 cars getting that noise. Earlier on this thread there was someone that bought like 2 used 2013 steering columns and they all had the rattling... was able to only solve it with a new one. So basically it's not a 100% certainty of fix unless you get a new one. I decided to live with it, it doesn't seem to be a safety concern, and fixing it seems like it's gambling with solution unless you fork out a couple of grands for a new column.

Update: I replaced the front brakes and the rattle 95% went away… perhaps the combination of replacing the damper and fixing the front rotor rattle was the ticket to fixing this issue… regardless I’m a happy camper now!

After my Lexus dealer replaced with a brand new Intermediate Steering Shaft, and the noise did not go away, I was not going to just replace the entire steering column. With that, I have successfully replaced the bushing in my EPS of my 2013 RX350 with a 100% correction (with the exception of another issue, read further) after reviewing this thread, and without first even opening up the EPS to see if that was the issue. There are enough videos on Youtube of Lexus, Toyota, Scion and others over 10+ years old with this issue. The sound is distinct!
My process.
I did without removing the steering column
I disconnected the battery terminals, removed a few trim pieces, the knee airbag, a small plastic vent and the Tilt and Telescopic ECU that was in the way so I could navigate my ratchet
I utilized an articulating ratchet to remove the top half of the EPS
I utilized a vacuum cleaner and my phone camera to clean out broken pieces laying in the EPS
I setup the new bushing and used my phone to ensure it was in place and then I replaced with the top piece and put everything back together
I started the car and the Tilt and Telescopic did not work and received an error "Electronic Power Steering Malfunction" one time and then shut car off
I started car and drove the vehicle and had no more messages, I have driven over 500 miles since I made the repair and no issues/error codes with the EPS, Lexus drives quiet as a mouse
MY ONLY ISSUE THE TILT AND TELESCOPIC no longer works! I removed the T&T ECU module and there was a burn on one of the pins. I am at a complete loss how this occurred as the vehicle was disconnected from the battery for the entire process... I have seen through the thread that Yinan had this same problem but that was several years ago so I don't if it was resolved...
I have ordered a replacement used ECU to try and install and see if it will work correctly, but I'm hesitant that it will short again. Then again, it may have been a total fluke?!

The rattling noise is gone, but my steering wheel auto tilt is not working He didn't have much time to deal with it today before I'd like to drive it back and I made an appointment next Tuesday. Do you know the possible cause of this issue? When I hit the tilt button, it will make a clicking sound once and then nothing will happen, and the steering wheel will not move. But I can still drive with it though.

Did you resolve the Tilt and Telescopic issue after your damper replacement?

Well today was a bit of a disappointment. First off, I was successfully able to remove the motor for the steering column without having to take the entire assembly out. I had to remove the lower dash pieces and the driver’s knee airbag, plus one small computer out, and I was able to use a swivel head 3/8 ratchet wrench to remove the 2 bolts that hold the little motor to the assembly. I’ll attach a few pictures.
Sadly, the damper was not degraded. It actually looked nearly brand new. I replaced it with the part from the video, and it may have slightly helped, but I think that is not the actual culprit for the rattle. I probably will have to get a 2013+ steering column to swap in eventually to fully fix the issue.
If anyone has any comments feel free to share. It was at least worth trying this before spending $700+ on a used steering column.

Because they don't know everything. Someone mentioned above to trust the dealer because they have the experience. I did not find this to be the case.
I called them about a hitch and got different answers from different people at the dealership, in terms of what is needed. Yes, it's very confusing esp when they
get $250/hr. for labor. I would expect better knowledge, service, etc.
