Got a Motorola G4 Play in April and bluetooth worked fine until last month when it would only work part time. It then stopped completely. I cleared the phone from the car and tried to re-pair it but no luck. When I try to pair, on the phone it never gets to the screen to enter the pairing code. On the car it says device cannot be paired and to check code is correct! Does anybody younger have some suggestions?

First thing would to isolate the problem ,, vehicle or your phone or both (very unlikely).
So try to pair with another phone or try to pair your phone to another vehicle.

Wife's RX350 2011 dropped my phone from connection, though it was still listed in its memory. It reconnected again after I had phone completely deleted as phone and music player and did entire "add phone" protocol. Also, to accomplish this, I had to do it in garage, without engine running. Any attempts to do so with engine running, say, waiting in the parking lot, failed. Took me good half a dozen times to reconnect.
Also, make sure your phone, in settings, is marked for proper use. Mine gives me 2 options to turn on, calls and audio.

I did all of the above. What happens is the phone never goes to the screen to enter the car passcode. Then the car says the phone entered the wrong passcode or could not be connected. I am going to call Consumer Cellular.

I contacted Consumer Cellular and they recommended a factory data reset. I did it and now Bluetooth works again, it recognized my car and I could connect it. However the reset erased my photos, apps and contacts. I reloaded contacts from Google on my PC via a USB cord.

Good catch, Bluetooth can be frustrating. As an aside, I reset my iPhone relatively often and the backup on iCloud restores everything except my passwords. It is difficult for me to imagine that something identical isn’t available for the Android.
