Default Outside light settings (puddle lamps)

How do you turn the setting on so the lights under the mirrors go on as you approach the car?

It's usually on by default ... it's possible that your lamps burnt out and need replacement ...

These settings can only be changed by the dealer but the default setting is on so they should be on unless they were specifically turned off at the dealer. I'd also suggest checking bulbs and fuses first.

Additionally, are you saying that they are not working at all or you want them to turn on at a farther distance from the vehicle? If it's the latter, the range cannot be changed AFAIK.

I have observed some oddity ... can't nail it down just yet.

Depending on the internal lock position left and right puddle lights come on independently. If the driver side is unlocked then the driver puddle light does not light up on approaching the vehicle. Driver side unlocked and the passenger side locked, then when I approach the passenger side, the passenger side puddle light comes on.

Since it works where needed, I have not tried to dig deeper. The vehicle is new to me, so the dealer may have set these based on the previous owner's request or it can be default settings.

"Puddle Lamps" come on when the headlight sensor on the upper
dash board determines that it is dark outside. Are you getting any
light source above the windshield such as a garage or street lamp
that "fools" the system into thinking it's bright out?

My garage door opener light is broken (not the bulb) it is dark in the garage when I open the garage door. It would be nice if the puddle lights would come on when I walk around the car. My drivers door is usually already unlocked. I wonder if that is why the puddle lights don't come on.

Default Puddle lights stopped working

Hi all, my puddle lights on both doors used to turn on when I approached the RX, now for some reason it stopped doing that....& I don't see a setting for that either....the only thing that was done to the RX in the recent past was a headlight change, but I don't recall if the issue started then.....

Just for grins, lock the RX and then approach it in the dark.

Now we are on to a real mystery. Think I will call the dealer and see if they have any idea.

Ok, try this ... when all the doors are locked, press unlock button on the keyfob, the interior lights and puddle lamps under the mirrors should light up ... if they do not, check & replace lamp bulbs ...

Found it! The "External Lights Off Time Adj" was switched to off for some reason, set it for 7 sec, (I think) and poof...they're on when I walk by.
