Start Stop Technology Special Service Campaign
I just received from Lexus a follow up notice (not that I ever got the first notice) for a special service campaign to install Smart Stop Technology in my 2010 RX350. Apparently this campaign covers several vehicles. It will cut engine power in case of simultaneous application of both the accelerator and brake pedals at certain speeds and in certain driving conditions. They call it a software update.
When I called my local dealer Lindsay Lexus they said I had to first bring it in for inspection, then they would order the part, then I had to come back! That does not sound like an ECM software update that will take 1 hour as described in the notice.
I am scheduled to take it in Feb. 7. I will provide an update afterward. However I am going to call Lexus corporate about this 2 visit nonsense.

No, I don't play soccer!
Interesting, it sounds like the brake override system Lexus introduced on the 2011 RX. Definitely let us know if you get more info. Usually for campaigns like this, the dealer fills your gas tank. If you have to make two trips, they should fill your gas tank twice

Is the starter motor on a RX350 designed to handle the duty cycle of Stop Start technology? I thought it is just a "regular" starter motor, so it might not be designed to continually start the engine many times, especially in heavy traffic situations. This is just a question on my part, not intended to cast any concerns or doubt on Lexus' design and reliability.

It is not engine start stop while waiting at a traffic light. It is intended to stop unwanted acceleration when someone screws up and hits the gas but thinks they are hitting the brake, or hits both at the same time etc. I think this is an old campaign from 2013 that they never notified me about. I got the vehicle used at the end of 2012. However it had been to the dealer at least once or twice for some warranty stuff. I anticipate with joy what nonsense service or repair they will try to sell me.
It is what you have on your 2011 and all newer vehicles. After the big Toyota/Lexus unwanted accleration scandal.
