Howdy folks,
Whilst waiting for my new (to me) 2012 RX450h to arrive in the next week or so, I see that some RX have a rear protection strip on the top of the bumper, presumably to protect it from scuffs.
Mine won't have one on. So am wondering if the protection piece is actually effective, or if it's just really cosmetic? I see that it doesn't quite cover the edge of the bumper but stops short. So the painted edge of the bumper would still suffer from scratches, I'm thinking.
I note that the protection strip on the 2nd gen RX seems to be a more thought out affair - the strip actually protects the bumper's leading edge.

So do I buy the genuine Lexus bumper protector, or forget about it? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Cut one of your own design out of an old inner tube--just kidding. Don't forget the gold trim too!
Basically, unless you can find some aftermarket thing that fits right, you're stuck with what Lexus sells. Also, don't buy an aluminum piece. They're thin and dent easily, and mag chloride will eat spots on them overnight.
