I am using a Lexus RX 2011 FWD. My experience with the remote was not very great. It is so short range and the panic button is very unreliable. Is that a known issue for Lexus RX? Is there something we can do to improve its range like using some Aftermarket part maybe? I also realize that the features on the remote seem to be impacted by the weather as well.
Can you please share your experience with the remote if you have the same problems? Thanks.

Have you tried to replace the battery inside the Keyfob? Sometimes lint gets into the buttons preventing closure or even release, so take a compressed air to clean it out.
I would also suggest that you try the second key. If it has been years, you may like to replace that battery too. In case you dont have a second key, I would suggest that you get one.

I think, you'd need an aftermarket remote start (for example, DEI product like Viper) in order to get a greatly improved range and reliability. A 2-way remote start would be from about $400 and up (installed) depending on features.
It also would likely require you to have a separate (small) fob. The new device might not have a Panic function/button.

Forgot to ask the most important question as short and long are relative terms.
How short is short? 3-4 car lengths?
Also used or new, if you have only one remote, you are taking a gamble ...

I have a 2010 RX350 (bought used on 2012) both remotes work fine (for me that is) and signal (given direct line-of-sight) works from my 8th floor apartment down to the parking lot area. I think I replaced the battery three to four months ago.
Get a replacement fob, have it programmed, and see if the replacement fob works better than the one you currently have.

Not sure about operating range but mine has a delay to it. Very much slower than my Gen 1 RX remote. I end up pushing it twice to lock the car and to turn off the lights. But after the second push I don't hear the beep and I push it again only to hear the beep thrice. The delay is slower than that of my Mercedes also.
